When is the best time to plant a food plot for bow season?

Asking for next year. I'm thinking about planting soy beans on a small plot but think it would do best if the beans are still green come October. When would I need to plant?

Plant them in late August or very early September. They like them best when they are young and tender. First frost will kill them so if you plan on hunting that plot after, mix some other stuff in

small plot with soybeans? probably not gonna work unless you get the expensive bean that regenerates. regular soybeans are history after deer start nipping on them.
i would suggest arrowleaf clover or triticale rye in early september. one good rain and it would be ready by october 1.

We planted triticale rye and cow peas for bow season. It did okay but we didn't get much rain at all. It normally does real well.

If you want to plant soybeans for deer then you will have to plant forage beans which don't produce the actual soybean. August to September would be the ideal time depending on rain of course. That being said there are probably better options out there than forage beans.

I planted a mixture of winter peas, soy beans, and chicory this year early September and it hasn't rained a damn drop. Only in a few spots do I have any small amount of germination. Thinking about doing it in August next year.
