Hands down for QUALITY field trial news. Ukc has a good listing also. But if you want the best of the best look in the field trial world.

Yeah normally I'd say go w trial breedings, however the last two dogs I sold were terrible for hunting. They were great markers but too hot (amped) to sit in a duck blind and be still and quiet for several hours without constant "reminding". For trial breedings make sure both parents or at least one of parents hunt (which is becoming more rare)
The last few good hunters I trained came off hunt test breedings where the parents hunted, then ran tests in the off season. You need a dog with a good volume knob, not a fire breathing dragon that will smash a 400 yd retired gun and vocalizes half way there. My little bitch now will never finish or run an open or an am, but she "chills" nicely when the birds aren't flying and is ready for business when it's time to work. Look for pups off Master Hunters (AKC) and Grand Champions (UKC/HRC ) . Retrievertraining.net is a good place to start as well as the others Hammer mentioned.

I have a British Lab. Not saying they are better than American as it depends how what you use them for but my yellow male is extremely calm and loves to hunt. He's very protective of my wife and kids as well.

I'll say it. As good as an American. Can be, once you own a British, you won't feed an American again.

I have a british male and he will be getting his HRC title in august. so I'm looking to buy a registered female possibly with an HRC also. Got about 9 grand in him so far so i would like to get some back with a female.

Call Clay Dosset at Prairie Plains Kennels for a BRitish. Great dogs and he trains them very well. My male will hopefully get his HRCH in October or before.
I'm paying more money for that dog to get his pecker wet than I did for my first kid's undergrad degree.

In the market for a British Chocolate Lab myself. Would like a larger male with the blockiest head ever. Anyone have any good breeders they can recommend?

British are black, yellow and red fox. If he's chocolate, he ain't British, according to my trainer.

my experience as well...I didn't think the difference would be that prounounced, but dogs from championship bloodlines are, in general, one hell of a lot better than those bought from a regular breeder...

This. Chocolate aren't British. I have a black male British from clay at prairie plains. He is as advertised. Quiet and calm retrieving machine. Weighs about 50#.
