I have a huge weed problem on my property that I'm looking to get under control.

I have a 26 gallon sprayer with a boo less system on the back of my 4 wheeler I'm gonna use.

However I'm not sure what chemicals to buy because I'm unsure of my grass type.

My property was an old cattle pasture at one time, but to me it looks like a mixture of Bermuda and St. Aug. I just want to be sure. Here are a couple picture for reference.

Hard to tell, but I would have to agree that it looks like Bermuda and st aug...

however, I don't see a lot of weeds in there...I would just fertilize and keep it watered well this summer and I'd bet the st aug will take over and look damn good.

haha I guess I managed to snap some pics in two good areas... I have some serious clover issues along with crabgrass and some other weeds that I do not know what they are.

Any chemical recommendations for those?

Also will fertilizing help fill in all those dirt spots in between the grass clusters?

yes indeed...if you can get the fertilizer and water right, weeds aren't typically much of a problem.

I typically don't bother with clover too much, as it dies out as soon as the weather warms up...however, as someone else posted, if you want to get rid of it, 24D will kick its arse.

as for the crabgrass, that is a whole lot more difficult problem that I wouldn't tackle until you get a good crop of desirable grass growing...if you want to get rid of it now, I would spot spray with roundup and then let the base grass fill in the dead spots.

I wouldn't spray anything else...might take a couple of doses to get all of the weeds in your yard, but 24d will do it

there is no point in spraying more than one herbicide if it is not necessary. 2,4-D is actually a growth hormone that was invented in the '40s, so it is cheap as hell.

10-4 appreciate the help!!

1 more question...

I got some fence rows I wanna spray to kill everything along it. Do you have a recommendation for a chemical that will kill all vegetation? Glyphosate?

If you want to get bermuda grass to grow spray MSMA. It is a turf grass chemical. You may have to spray a few times to get the bermuda to take over completely.

You'll want to add something to the glyphosate on the fence rows to get some residual.

I don't know what the best bang for your buck is on that. Maybe atrazine

The 2-4-D will kill the clover, but it will kill the grass also. Atrazine will kill the clover and not kill the St. Augustine. I am not positive on the Bermuda. I would recommend contacting your County Agent before spraying anything. They live for this stuff and are typically very good.

2-4-D will not kill st aug. It will kill the clover. MSMA that is used to help killing weeds in bermuda will kill st aug. Atrazine is used in centerpeed.
2-4-D kills broadleaf (wintergrass).

It looks like the wider blade grass is probably carpet grass. Hard to tell with those pics.

I spray fencerows and typically use glyphosate with a little dishwashing soap added. it kills pretty much everything except that it doesn't do well on privet.

I have also used something called brush killer from tractor supply that has a lot of 24-D in it along with a few other herbicides that does very well on everything in my fencerows.

Use glyphosate with a pre emerge to prevent regrowth if you dont want grass to come back up. Ask for oust.

I've heard both that 2-4-d kills st aug and it doesn't. I read altrazine was the way to go for St. Aug. I am by no means an expert and I am very interested in knowing what will and won't work.
