What is the price range to rebore a barrel?

I have an old Winchester Ranger bolt action in 30-06 that I would like to take to 35 Whelen.
Are there Baton Rouge area gunsmiths that do this?

Why not just buy a .35 whelen. Even if this could be done which I have my doubts it would cost more than a new .35 whelen.

It's probably cheaper and better to buy a barrel

I'm going to guess most local gunsmiths can't rebore a barrel if they can even do it at all. Re-chambering is much more common.

Difficult to rebore one. Cheaper, easier, more effective to rebarrel. Depending on quality of new barrel, cost will be about 1/2 to 2/3 or so of new gun.

Reboring is not a good option as already mentioned. If you choose to re-barre, McGowen has a good reputation w/o costing an arm and a leg. If you find someone locally to do the gunsmithing, you can get a prefit barrel from McGowen. If you find a good local gunsmith, you might first check and see if he already has a 35 Whelen barrel that he took off from someone else's gun.

New barrel is your answer. 350 for barrel, around 200 labor. My opinion is to rebuild whole rifle. New trigger, true up action, bed stock, etc......
If not then just buy a new rifle.
