I'm looking for the best overall inshore fishing charter / experience in Louisiana. I want to take a few folks on a trip that helped me rebuild my house from the flood.

I'm looking for good lodging, good food and great fishing for specks and reds. Thanks.

Where does Hackberry Rod & Gun rank? Is there something better?

If you are in Mandeville, there isn't a reason to go across the state. Awesome fishing to be had South of New Orleans.

Charlie Thomason - bayou charters in hopedale.

Plus he's got a blackjack that is finer than frog hair.

For big trout this is a good choice. Calcasieu is where you want to be truly big trout.

For numbers (Trout and Red) there are plenty in Hopedale, Delacroix, and down the River to Venice. Would be a shorter drive for yall.

Theophile Bourgeois

Fantastic set-up out of Lafitte. And if you actually get Theophile himself, he is a comedian on the water. Can also splurge if you choose to and he will fly you out to the Chandeleur Islands in his seaplane.

Bailey Short- Southern Flats

If you fly fish at all I would strongly consider this guy. Works at the Orvis store in Baton Rouge and is one of two Orvis endorsed guides here in Louisiana.

Almost like asking what kind of gun or pocket knife to buy. There are a lot of good charter captains and everyone will give you a different recommendation.

Maybe narrow your search to a particular area and ask of any captains to avoid.

Good luck and nice way to show your gratitude.

Marty Lacoste with Absolute Fishing Charters. Been three times and limited out every time. Loves what he is doing and wont be the main person in the boat catching all the fish.

I've never been fishing with this outfit but did go through the USCG captain prep course with Capt. Herman and he is a good guy. If I ever get the chance to fish down there then I am going to give him a call.

I second theoph. When I was 18 he took us out personally. I think to make up for the previous trip where this jackass captain hooked me in the neck with a treble hook while casting his spoon.

Anyway, we are out in lake salavador. Windy as shite. He's poking around the lake trying to find a calm pocket. Breakfast back at the lodge is making a comeback. I couldn't hold it any longer. I told him to let me off on some grass or I was about to shite my pants. He tells me to grab his center console and throw my arse over the side.

Meanwhile he is laughing his arse off as well as everyone else in the boat. I took my dads handkerchief and cleaned up. Threw it in the water and frick if I know. Redfish bite turns on right after that. We limited out.

Love the guys at the Reel Inn Dularge.

Travis Miller, Marty Lacoste, Rob Dupont, all of em. Great atmosphere and lodge and they can put you on the fish at all times of the year.
