Cheapest ones?

WASRs are phenomenal for the price. Can be had for around $550. High end is Arsenal SLR107. They can be had for a little under $1000 if you look. Higher end is Arsenal SAM7 series which can be had for around $1200-1400. Top tier is Rifle Dynamics which can be had for a little over 2k. WASR is romanian, Arsenal is Bulgarian, Rifle Dynamics is out of Las Vegas and they use Saiga recievers (they may have switched after import ban).

im fine with low end lol

Low end I'd go with a WASR for $550ish. If you want better fit and finish I'd buy a DDI AK for about $150 more.

How about an I.O.? They're made in the USA and are priced well.

WASR is gonna be your best options for between $500-700.

Idk about AK's but AR's are getting cheap.

I have a bunch of ak's of varying quality. If I were buying one on the low end I would buy the amd-65 variant.

You have to be careful with the cheap US made AK's. Most of the company's are using cast front trunions.

I almost bought an IO. What's wrong with them?

quote:the only plastic on an amd-65 is the hand grips. you can always buy wood ones if you want. its a really well made ak for the price, and I know mine is very accurate.

They just suck. Barrel quality isn't there (the steel is soft as butter). The rivets are not installed well. Pins walk. A slew of other issues. If you live in BR, Vince Buckles is hosting an AK builders class with Larry Vickers in February. They have 1 spot left. Costs $2200 IIRC. You get to build an AK and learn to shoot from LAV.

Bought a Wasr at Ferrara last week. 620.00. Love it

Better get one while you can. 0bama is chomping at the bit. Got a feeling a ban is coming

Don't get an IO
I have a newer IO I just got recently. They are much better built since the move to Florida. Yes, they had some problems in the past, but these are not the same rifles and are well worth the money if you want a lower cost AK for fun.

Cast is not necessarily a bad thing. FN went to cast frames for their Browning Hi Powers when their forged frames could not handle the then new .40 S&W.
BTW, Larry Vickers is a joke.
