I just wanted to say thanks for the information you guys have provided. I'll test out the Glock next week to celebrate taking and rocking out the audit section of my CPA.

I'd recommend S&W Mp9 or Beretta px4 storm. great value guns, can develop a more expensive taste, little more curb appeal than a glock. Springfield xdm's are nice too.

I've played Call of Duty with Jcorye for years. I thought he could actually shoot.

If I could go way back in time, my first handgun purchase would be a S&W .357 revolver with a 4" barrel. You can shoot .38 special through it to learn, but will eventually want one, so it is a lifetime (heirloom) investment.

Try others as well. Don't get hung up on glock.

Lots of opinions and lots of great guns out there. You can now get the standard Springfield XD 9mm for $419. You flat out won't find a better gun for that price. For $100 more you can get the new Mod 2 version which adds a couple nice features, but is no better quality wise.

I carry the S&W 9mm MP Shield. It is a pretty good gun. My wife carries a Walther PK380 which is actually a sweet shooting pistol. I would suggest you just go to a range and shoot as many as possible. Shoot double and single stack models, shoot revolvers and semis. And shoot large and small caliber. Sooner or later you will find the one that just feels right.

I was looking at that Springfield too, it had a lot of extra safety features.

This Is My Safety

Get a Glock 19 or an M&P 9.

I checked out a couple of the guns mentioned in this thread. A Ruger 9mm, Glock 17 and 19, and Springfield XDM 9mm.

Do a lot of the smaller gripped weapons come with extended mags that also extend the grip? The guy at Bass Pro showed me a couple of weapons geared towards concealed carry but the extended mags lengthen the handle.

For an update, I tried a Beretta 9mm, a Smith and Wesson striker fire 9mm, a Glock 17, and a Springfield XD 9mm.

I was a big fan of both the Glock and the XD, and will probably choose between those 2.

As I described earlier with sizes, it's really a question of "do you want a gun to fit both roles" versus having a fixed gun for each role.

If you want a gun that comes ready for full sized use and carry use, I would recommend the Ruger SR9c. It's also priced very affordably. Here's my comparison of it to the M&P9c.

Both those guns you listed are full sized guns. Again, you need to figure out what size you want. If you want something you can possibly carry, I would steer you towards the Glock 19 or 26 versus the Springfield XD compact.

If you don't plan to carry it around, a larger gun is always a better decision.

That's the route I'm going, with the full size 9mm. I'll eventually carry, but it'll be a couple of years from now and with a different weapon. I don't want to carry concealed until I am extremely accurate, have plenty of shooting experience, and do some situational training of sorts.
