What are plans for your AR?

I don't mean customization wise, I just mean what are your plans for using it? I'm a bit of a nerd and it seems to just like building/maintaining a custom built computer. I built my first computer a few years ago and here I am letting it sit while I do all my interweb stuff on my phone/tablet.
Now, here I am. About to put lower together tonight and I'm thinking to myself, why am I doing this? Am I doing it cause it's a fad? Are these things really fun to shoot at the range? Hunting? Home defense? Gov't take over?
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to start it, but what am I excited for?

1 ultralight CQB (minimalist with iron sights or something really compact like an Aimpoint Micro or Trijicon RMR)
1 CQB
1 medium range
1 SPR long range (Mk12 or equivalent)

Wish I had one. Lost all of mine in a boating accident.

Those are 4 of the best categories for AR rifles.
I have a 20" that fits more in the long range category and has a 12 power scope.
And I have a BCM 16" that's very light and sits under my bed at night. It would be more in the light CQB category. I also use this for carbine shooting courses.

what kind of battle do you plan on engaging in?

While I'm not 100% certain, it is prudent to be prepared for as many contingencies as are reasonable, wouldn't you agree?

I guess so. I guess I just never think of stuff like that. At 26, I'm still naive

Perhaps Ace, like myself, subscribes to the John Wayne theory: "I don't wanna be killed for lack of shootin' back".

An AR is a very effective defensive weapon. Real life isn't like the movies - handguns will only put someone out immediately if you hit the central nervous system. If you just hit the torso, it will take multiple shots and the person will most likely still be up and able.
A rifle or shotgun does much more damage and is more likely to stop someone in fewer shots. Plus they are easier to shoot since you have more points of contact on your body.

I always laugh and then smh when I see someone go down after one shot from a pistol because some people will think that's how it really works.
Shotgun for home protection, pistol for mobility.
