Over the next year I will be in the market for a bay boat for 3-4 people regularly, 4-5 occasionally. I think Ive narrowed it down to glass boat in the 18'-22' range. However I dont think I will use it enough to warrant spending $20k+. It will be used for marsh and bays.

What boat should I look for? I understand this will be early-mid 2000's but are Kenner, Mako, Fish Master, Robalo, etc all the same? Any particular make to watch for?

Look for 22' Triton Sea-Flight.

22' Triton would be a good start. With a boat in that price range, the main thing you need to do is make sure you hire a surveyor and get the motor checked out.

there was one on LASM this morning for $19.5K

I'd also recommend an older Mako. I have one and it is nearly indestructible.

look for 22' Skeeter. Best riding/fishing bay boat i've been in in that size.

I can vouch for blazer bay's. Solid boats for a decent price. I have had two and would get another one if i fished more

22', nothing smaller (and I own a 22', and usually fish 3-4 people)

Good answers above.

Champion is no longer made, but evidently had one of the best hulls ever. Some complain of a soft floor, but that can be replaced if needed. That's where I'd start.

15k may be a tight budget, but now may be a good time. You may find that that extra $5k in budget may be needed. And get ready, to fix something (hopefully after) every outing for the first several times... Salt water boats take abuse and you gotta fix stuff, especially on an older rig. (trust me)

Skeeters seem to be good and I've noticed even the new Skeeters are less than I'd expect...

Good luck... and enjoy!

Thanks everyone. Id like to see where you guys are finding Triton, Skeeter, NauticStar, etc under $20k.

I have experience with a 1999 Kenner 18'. Im always turning a wrench or rewiring something.

Its weird how so many great hulls were from manufacturers that couldnt make it (or bought out by competition)

I bought a 2008 20' blue wave this year for 12K. Decent boat, but I wish I would've gotten a nautic star. 8-12 year old, 20-22' bay boats for $12k-$15k are all over sportsman and facebook pages

maybe so... I didn't go shopping for you... and I mentioned that you might need to bump your budget.

$15k is a lot of dollars to spend only to not to have a big enough boat, or one that isn't dependable.

I was in your same situation 3 years ago, and spent $30k on a 7-8 year old boat. I probably overpaid by a couple thousand, but glad I didn't get any less boat.
