Looking to make a road trip from Louisiana through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, & Wyoming this summer. This will be a vacation and visit family that's scattered.

We pretty much know the bigger attractions we want to visit(Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, etc)
Are there any lesser known places y'all feel are worth the time? Also, any particular routes to take that might be off the beaten path?

Near by is the Meteor Crater. That's a really awesome sight.

Shoshone Falls might be on your list too.

ETA - Utah? SLC? If so hit the Mormon Tabernacle. It's a really neat building. The acoustics are incredible.

I can tell you without a doubt, do not go I-8 to I-10 into El Paso. You're gonna want to stab yourself in the face if you make that drive.

Petrified forest is horseshite. It's just a FEW old logs laying on the ground that look like rocks. Don't waste your time.

My favorite part was riding around the side of a mountain in Flagstaff on the Snow Bowl Road. Wouldn't have minded camping there overnight, but I had a room right at the base of the mountain

Good one, Zion/Bryce Canyon/Canyonlands are amazing and pretty close to each other.

For Grand Canyon, stay on the North Rim in one of the cabins. Start trying to reserve it now.

Million Dollar Highway from Ouray to Durango is a great road.

Salt Flats are pretty crazy too.

Good call on Carlsbad Caverns. Cool place. Stayed at the Grand Canyon before. It's a sight that must be seen with your own eyes.

Carlsbad Caverns
Painted Desert / Petrified Forest hour or so drive through)
Stop in Gallup, NM at Jerry's Cafe for the BEST New Mexican food on the planet
Antelope Canyon (not a NP, but still awesome. Do one of the native american tours.
Grand Canyon (North Rim if you are incorporating some of these others, and depending on time of year. South Rim if you bypass some of these, or just add more time onto the trip)
Bryce Canyon
Zion

ETA. In the opposite direction a bit but Sedona is beautiful as well.

Drive through the Tonto National Forest if you're heading to Flagstaff. It only adds about 20 minutes to the drive, but is incredibly beautiful.

I also think the Sunset Crater and Wuptaki Monument near Flagstaff are worth a visit.

Just got to Bellingham,WA via a similar trip you want to take.

Grand Teton National Park is something that hasn't been mentioned yet (I think). It's beautiful and connects to Yellowstone via Rockefeller road about a couple miles east of Jackson WY.

By the way the trip from Denver to Jackson Wyoming is flat out beautiful once you get outside of Denver.

Don't go through Cheyenne,go through Laramie. Then get off at 287 in Rawlins and make sure you have a nice charge on your battery for your camera.
