Can someone make a general list of what the average person living alone in a neighborhood should be stocked with? This is my first full hurricane season in the new place

Genset and gas for it up till 3-4 days
Water to drink
Extra beer and then many more
Can foods. One will be using a lot out the frig
BBQ pit and extra coals, lighterfluid

Oh, land lines come in handy. Cell phones go to shite if it is real bad.

I will never board up a window again.
I pay insurance for a reason.

I live alone, my house is basically like my camp, i have a generator, just have other friends nearby that u could go to to crash, during Isaac at least one of us always had power, and never ran out of stuff or ways to cook or beer

I'm sure there's much more that I'm missing.
I have everything on my list except a good window unit. Plan on buying one real soon. We were without power after Isaac for a week and it was absolutely miserable. I borrowed a window unit from my mom and it saved us

Yeah, I dropped my land line this year, just couldn't justify the expense any more. That means cell service will probably go out

My parents live on the other side of Mandeville from me, and have a Generac. The downfall is that they have a bunch of trees around the house and its pretty close to the Tchefuncta River (never flooded though). I live just north of I12 in Mandeville and there isn't a single tree taller than 10feet in our entire neighborhood (brand new). Our hurricane plan this year is to ride out hurricanes at my place, and hopefully head back to their house after it passes (assuming I lose power).

quote:Yeah, everyone in my family had AT&T for Isaac and I had Verizon. Evidently an AT&T tower went down in the area and no one could get cell service but me. Unfortunately I couldn't talk to any of them either since none of their phones were working
