Just realized that every WMA within driving distance of me (Thistlewaite, RKY, Sherburne, Indian Bayou, Grassy Lake) is closed to all hunting except deer hunting Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (first year living around these parts).

So much for duck hunting this weekend...

And you do not want to set foot on a wma this weekend. Far far too many idiots will be out there. It borders on dangerous.

Yeah, I've seen the number of people out during either sex gun hunts. INSANE!

Still pisses me off that every WMA around is closed. I'd have to drive 2 hours to get to anywhere to duck hunt now.

you ever looking for a second on your hunts? I hunt basically the same places as you and I'm always solo. I'll warn you my spots require a lot of walking or paddling to get into.

Well, I figured that. Just sucks. First place I've lived where I am having this issue with public lands.

This is actually my first year duck hunting any of these places, so I'm pretty green to them. Hunted Sabine, Maurepas Swamp, and Big Branch before this year. Have done some scouting, but most of the spots I was checking out don't even have water right now.

I'm not opposed to a long paddle or walk. I like to get away from people as much as possible.

Yeah water is low low right now. Haven't been able to scout this yr due to some home remodeling and a new kid. But have hunted those and other areas within drive of BR for last 3 seasons. Send me an email if you want a second for a hunt.

Btw I'm out of town this wknd but will be back in business rest of the season.
