We caught about 100 trout surf fishing in Grand Isle between Thursday and Saturday. Most of them were nice trout, only had to measure a handful.

I pulled in a 30+ lb black drum from the surf. I thought I had a small shark hook so I hauled arse back to the beach to reel him in. He was fun to catch. I thought the CCA Star Tourney had a heaviest division for black drum, but they don't so I threw him back.

Pretty sure one of those(not seen in pic) was a hybrid. The top of the back had the spots of a black, but it had the mouth/head of a white. If so, it's the first I've ever seen.

I have been doing some reading about catching crappie and it seems trolling small cranks is becoming quite popular.

Very. Lots of info at crappie.com. I've linked some of those threads in here before.

Yeah, that is where I was reading about it. I just stumbled on it recently. Some dude catches them in what I thought was a dead sea at the rest area on I-49.

That place is hot as fire for about 1 week every spring. The banks are lined with people.

Did you read my post? I threw him back. I thought I could maybe enter the CCA Star Tourney for heaviest, but they didn't have a black drum division. I had to go back up to the camp to check on my phone, that's why he's in the wagon.

Made a solo morning trip to Grand Isle Saturday morning. Caught a limit of specks surf fishing live shrimp under a cork until i ran out and then switched to a gold spoon. They were biting pretty much every cast. No measuring needed as most of them were 15-18" with the occasional 20" trout. I was out the water by 8:00 and home by noon. I forgot my landing net which made for some interesting landings .

Sounds like a rough weekend

without a doubt, had fun with little booux on the beach and catching a few trout though so that was the worth all the other stuff.

Pats in Henderson has a hotel on their property. Good food. A local band on Fri and Say night. Lots of local talent at dance.

fun fish to catch but if they did have a heaviest category it would go well over 50lbs. We caught two in one day over 50 on cracked crab over an oyster bed

We got limits of specs on Friday morning and Sunday morning fishin grand isle. Got a good mess of em Saturday too but it was a little slower. The girlfriend hooked a big jack and fought it for an hour on some light tackle before landing it. I would post pics but i can never get it to work on this board.
