Going today and purchase my new grill. I can't make up my mind in which model to get. I like the durability of the stainless model, but I like the iron grates for cooking on the E version. Looking at the Weber Genisis. Also, is the sear burner worth it the extra price?

The SS grates will last forever. My Weber is 5-6 years old and the grates have no rust or pitting on them.

My thoughts on the sear burner- if you can get the whole grill up to 650-700 degrees, do you really need a separate seer burner? I ended up saying no and did not get it. I haven't missed it at all, but I don't really know any better.

Weber Genesis Special Edition (at Ace and specialty stores like Goodwood Hardware)

The stainless grates are great to cook on and easy to clean. Sear burner is worth it because IMHO the big burners are spaced too far apart. 90% of my cooking us left most burner and sear burner. After 2 years I'm still glad I did Special Edition instead of SS. Buy the Weber grill cover while you are at it.

Recently got the E330. Liked the iron grates as well. Was more interested in the side burner than the sear burner, but it has put a good sear on the steaks I've done on it. Really happy with it. Oh, and put it together yourself. I don't trust those people to give a frick about putting other people's stuff together anymore. Doesn't take long, maybe a 6pack or so...

My enamel one is still brand new looking and is 5 years old. I like the iron grates. I do have to clean them a bit, but I just like the way food cooks on em. Probably mental.

That's my whole thing with the iron grates, that I know they do a great job of cooking. I never had a SS grill, so I wondered if there is a big difference. If there is no big difference, I'll go with the SS version due to durability and ease of maintenance.

Everyone thinks I am crazy for not getting the SS.

But I would get the enamel every time. It just looks so much better IMO, stays clean and shiny.

I have a 9 year old green enamel and it looks about 4 months old. I take good care of it but don't go crazy. It gets a spring cleaning once a year, and then just spot clean as necessary.
