BUUUULLSHIT!!!! They're just trying to sell some shitty venom extractors. They don't work!

Disagree about them not working. Also disagree with the statement that he would have died w/out it.

I worked with a state wildlife department years ago. Extraction kits were standard equipment, and the department had experience with snakebites.

Granted, they will not remove all venom, and you are going to have serious damage regardless. But if you can remove some venom, you're better off.

In the video does he use the actual same dirty suction cup to demonstrate? Would not do that.

Saw this on Facebook last night. They're definitely exagerrating. Your chances of dying, if bitten, are very small.

it depends on the severity of the bite, location, and health of victim!
i have a buddy that got bit on the wrist by a water moccasin when we were in college. not a "full dose" bite according to the er doc but it still f-ed his arm up pretty good for quite a while. he had to drive himself to the er bc he was squirrel hunting alone. he was sucking the venom out with his mouth while driving. by the time he got to the er there were red streaks up to his shoulder. skin on the inside of his mouth turned black and sloughed off.
also, a lady i used to work with, her dad got a "full dose" bite by a copper head that damn near put him in the clay. he was alergic to the antivenom and ended up strapped down to the i.c. bed for 10 days in a darkened room because he was violently delusional.

That's why I don't squirrel hunt til it gets cold. Otherwise I spend more time looking for snakes than I do squirrels.

you have to cut off your leg to survive. Like Hershal did when bitten by the zombie

I was always told not to waste time with an extractor. To just get your arse to the hospital. I guess if someone was driving you it could help if it didn't delay treatment. Not to mention most folks prob wouldn't use it right.

I would have to be in a really remote place to try something like that. I've always heard sucking on the site increases blood flow to the area, thus increasing the movement of the venom in the body. Keeping your heart rate down and getting to a medical facility in a timely fashion are the two best things to do (so I've been told). I'm either working or playing in the woods/swamp/marsh 3 or 4 days every week. I probably see more snakes in a year than most people see in a lifetime. I'm convinced I have a better chance of getting struck by lightening than getting severely injured by a venomous snake in Louisiana. As long as you don't step on one you are always safer than going to Cortana Mall.

Not sure where this was, but copperhead bites are not often treated with antivenin for precisely this purpose; the risk/reward is not justified and the bites are not considered fatal in most situations. Copperhead venom is also not included in the cocktail of antivenin production (3 rattlesnakes + cottonmouth), though it would work based on pit viper venom similarities.

Yes, and, like I said, your chances of dying from a snake bite are very small.

And both lived, which was exactly my point. The vast majority of venomous snake bites in the US are like this or less severe.

Don't worry, Bros.

Good thing we don't have black mambas. I have read a mamba bite is 100% fatal without anti venom.

true, you have a point.
regarding copper head anti venom: ask the er doc why he got hit up with it but my former coworker said her dad was REALLY out of his mind after this - it was in texas
