Well, I understand it's expensive, plenty of rules, etc.; but there ain't much that compares to calling a big bunch of greenheads from the stratosphere all the way to feet down gun range. But it's been a long damn time since I've done that myself.

State-level sales of federal duck stamps have always been sketchy because of border sales, but it's worse now. Still, the trends were meaningful.

A few years ago, my brother was visiting from California over New Years, and we decided to hunt ducks on Jan. 2nd. There was no place to buy a federal duck stamp except on-line, and only a few states sold them. So a guy from California ended up buying a federal duck stamp on-line from Arkansas Game and Fish to hunt in Louisiana. I assume AR got credit for that sale.

The cost CAN be insane. It can also be pretty damn cheap.

Hell I used to hit em hard. Got tired of being happy to get three or four big groups of mallards to decoy a year and filling limits of teal. All the while folks start in the summer talking about record hatches for like the 25th straight year.

I'll start back in a few years when my boys are ready, until then I'll just let them be
