I'm looking to buy a small used tractor to pull a finish mower, box blade, and maybe a small set of choppers. We have 5 acres and it's taking a toll on my ztr mower. Is there any secret online resource in louisiana that people list tractors for sale, that I may not be aware of? I've been keeping an eye on Craigslist and LA Sportsman. That's about all I know of.

Are you looking to cut down the time it takes you to cut the grass? If so a small finishing mower is not the way to go. We maintain 7 acres and with our finishing mower it takes the better part of a day. When I use the scaggs zero turn I can get it done in less than 2 hours. Not sure if that's what your out to accomplish.

No, I don't care if it takes me longer, it's just wearing out my Exmark and I don't want to spend another 10k on a mower any time soon. And I have 2 sons, oldest is 13. I'd put him on it and make him earn his groceries. Lol The back of my property is about a 3 acre field that I keep mowed with the rest of the yard and I'd like to chop it and drag it to smooth it out some. It's pretty bumpy so I can't go too fast on the mower without bouncing all over. I'd also like to be able to pull a box blade to spread dirt and gravel. I'm planning to build a 30x50 metal shop back there this year and will haul in limestone to make a driveway to it, so I'd have to maintain that. I have family nearby with tractors I borrow from time to time, but I don't really like relying on them and I'm always worried I break something on theirs. Just don't like borrowing things in general. I don't really need a front end loader, just a 3 pt hitch. I'm pretty good at working on stuff, so I'm not worried about buying something older. I was thinking a small 25 to 30hp would do what I need. Don't want to finance it either. Would like to spend about 5k cash on it. Maybe up to about 7k, if it was a hard to pass up deal. I know a lot of people say the old ford n's are good, but I don't know if I want something that old.

Small tractors hold on to there price. Really. I paid $4500 for a 1975 Ford 2000 diesel with PS and it was rebuilt. That was 6 years ago. Still runs like a bat out of hell.

Oh, if I need anything for it, I can get it thru NAPA.

I have an old 2000 like that. Failed the injector pump the other day. That is usually the only thing I got that will always start. Been a solid tractor man

Dam good price for that if there is no blow by and runs good.

Problem about Deeres, Very high price to fix them. Two nuts and two bolts for my JD cutter cost me $128. shite you not.

I've heard that about the JD's. That's got me a bit turned off to them. I don't have much use for that bush hog that comes with that one. I need a finish mower. Could always sell it though and buy a different mower. Thanks for the link!

What causes blow by, how is it fixed, and what harm does it do? If you don't mind teaching me something new. And I assume blow by is the puff of smoke that comes out when you take off or throttle up some tractors. Just trying to educate myself for when I go look at one.

This. Diesel engines are very easy to rebuild. More so on small tractors.

Cost to rebuild a Ford 2000 diesel is around $400 in parts.

Oh, try that with a new diesel tractor.

There is a fellow up on 190 in Erwinville who sells used tractors. He's not a crook or anything. Just deals in used tractors.
I usually just notice tractors for sale in people's yards when I'm on the road. Tractor house.com is fine if you plan to travel to get the tractor.

Most dealers offer 0% financing on new tractors. May be worth it considering a decent compact tractor will be more than half the price of a new one.

I was going to ask if anyone knew about him and if he's proud of his tractors. He's always got something in his yard. He's got a little Ford out there right now. I pass by there every day. I live near False River.
