I tried to get on in '04. Applied for ebrp, AP, East and west Feliciana area. My qualification was 4 years active military (USMC). Made 90 on the civil service. Didn't make it to interview. Found out later there were 124 applications for 1 spot in that area and if you didn't have prior LE experience you didn't have a chance.
Could have pursued coastal parishes and podunk places and possibly made it but no guarantee when or if transfer closer to home could happen so I didn't pursue any further.

ETA: I did the physical fitness test down in Baton Rouge today. There was a lot more guys out there than I expected. Started out with close to 50 applicants and by the end of the day was a little under 20. I ended up doing very well on all three portions, but will probably be competing against a lot of applicants for about 15 spots. Wish me luck.

Give us some details about the PT test! That shite must be worse than BUD/S, if 60% of the candidates are washing out in a screening test.

No, it really wasn't that hard at all. I was really surprised with how many guys failed. I'm not trying to say I'm king dick or anything but I showed up in shape, and a lot of guys there looked like they had no business being there. About half were prior law-enforcement or military, and the other half looked like guys fresh out of college. The test was Max push-ups in a minute max sit ups in a minute and a timed one and a half mile run. What got most guys were the instructors being very picky about the standards.

I do my physical test tomorrow. What time did you run your mile and a half in?

I know a game warden very well. If you make it to the academy, it's very tough and rigorous. Would not take it lightly whatsoever. He seems to have fun at work, always different things going on with different seasons (dove then deer then duck then turkey then boating; repeat) seems to love his job and says the pay ain't half bad.

Thats good time. I've been running a mid 12 mile and a half.

Who runs the academy, state or their own?

LDWF has their own 28-30 week academy in Baton Rouge

TDcline, I took the PT test yesterday as well and passed. We had 45 I believe and 23 passed. I'm like you, I saw many folks there that were clearly not prepared. What location are you hoping for? Seems like we had several from North Louisiana area there. Good luck to you! I'm curious to see how fast the remainder of the hiring process goes, being the academy is coming up soon.

I'm located near Lake Charles, so I applied for basically every parish around there all the way out to Central LA. Best of luck to you. Sounds like it's going to be pretty competitive for the spots that they have available so I'm just seeing what happens.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm in Lafayette, but put anywhere in the state. Wondering when the psych eval and oral interviews will be. They didn't say much after the PT test.

Might be pretty soon. I talked to a game warden I know and he said that he thought the next class would begin in September.

That's what I'm thinking as well!

Last thing the instructors told us was "no news is good news". I haven't heard anything since so I guess we'll see how it goes.
