To clarify, the lens and frame both need to be certified but only the lens or frame must be marked.

Glasses are a package and individual parts don't meet different specs.

I think that's why they don't stamp them. The lenses are Z87 certified but the frames probably aren't for various reasons (shatter resistance, splash protection, etc...). Costa boasts about their lenses being Z87 but never mentions their frames.

Where?

I can't find that on a single spec sheet with their glasses.

I've seen it several times, a quick google search will show lots of reviews and articles stating this.

I just sent them an email asking if they have or plan to produce any Z87.1 compliant glasses. I'll let ya'll know.

The Costa 400™ lenses are designed for adventure and built to perform. These lenses are made for anyone who lives, works, or plays on the water. They provide 100% polarization, 100% UV protection, and have ideal clarity, contrast, and definition.

Costa 580™ lenses use patented technology to reduce yellow light. According to the company, this allows the eye to see more red, blue, and green, which can be especially helpful when in a boat, fishing from a pier, etc. Costa claims that yellow light near 580nm is particularly difficult for the eye to process so the company made sure Costa 580 lenses can handle it. They are available in gray, copper, blue mirror, green mirror, and silver mirror.

The company touts that its LightWAVE™ glass lenses are 20% thinner and 22% lighter than regular glass lenses, and still exceed federal standards for impact resistance. Its CR-39® lenses offer ideal resolution in an optically correct, lightweight, and scratch-resistant plastic material. The polycarbonate lenses have been tested to meet or exceed the rigorous impact standards set forth by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), including ANSI Z80.3 and ANSI Z87.1 lens

Because they're probably not certified. I doubt they actually meet the spec.

If they met the spec they'd be stamped. It's an easy selling point.

Yup. All talk about lenses, nothing about the frames which leads me to believe the lenses are certified but the frames aren't. Thus, they don't meet safety standards for any plant or oil field work I have seen.

Yup, that's why I was wondering if anyone knew of a model that may be stamped Z 87.1.

Look into Crossfires LINK

Pretty good shades for the price. I have a couple polarized pairs that have C Z87+ stamped on them. I think I paid $15-25 on Amazon

I ask to see the Z87.1. I guess I'm the a-hole safety man.

I literally thought this thread would be about specialized Costa sunglasses with a Chevy Z71 on the side of the frames. What is wrong with me?
