News broke Tuesday that Bass Pro Shops is preparing a bid for the purchase of Cabela’s. The merger, first rumored in November, would transform the world of hunting and fishing like nothing else before it, as well as affecting the livelihoods of thousands of workers.

Reuters reported that BPS has partnered with Goldman Sach’s private equity firm to provide the financing needed to purchase Cabela’s. While the bid amount and a potential date for the purchase are still unknown, the report said BPS is facing competition from other unnamed buyout firms and has only begun the lengthy process required to buy Cabela’s. Competition is limited because firms are hesitant to purchase brands associated with firearms in the current political and legislative atmosphere, but it still exists.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo

I assume they would close down the Gonzales Cabelas if so since they have a Bass Pro less than 20 miles away

I do also, having Just Bass Pro, even if both stores stay open hurts the variety and selection of merchandise. The stores really carry different items. Hopefully someone else makes the purchase and not Bass Pro.

They could have contracts that would make it harder to close, because they owe tax money. The store also might make enough where it is economically feasible to have both stores

Man this is terrible. Sadly, I'm expecting the quality of cabelas products to drop off. I hope it doesn't happen.

Where else will I buy quality gear?

It really depends on what you need, Cabelas carries more stuff that I buy, upland gear is really limited at Bass Pro

if I need circus peanuts, beef jerky or a rubberband gun, cabelas
anything I wear or use in the woods, basspro
and this is coming from a guy that religiously buys from cabelas online
the store in Gonzales is an embarrassment

Both are overpriced already, if this happens the less competition means even higher prices. I do buy casual clothes there sometimes but on hunting and fishing stuff I prefer academy or macks.

They should of hired a local consultant from day one to help stock the shelves. It took damn near a year for them to get a mediocre inshore fishing section, but they had everything you needed to catch steelhead and salmon on flies...

Waiting for this to go through because I have Cabela's and Bass pro gift cards and I want to use them at one place.
