I was trying to be a good neighbor and cut some weeds/plants that were starting to get a little high behind my fence.... well thats the last time i'm doing that shite. Got poison ivy in a couple spots. Thought they were bug bites for a while, but they plumped up into the rash like state yesterday. I bought some stuff at walgreens, but looks like I might have a couple more spots popping up. Usually, just get some prednisone or a shot... but, was curious if anyone had any ideas?

When I get it I head to the doctors for a cortisone shot...

prednisone, calamine lotion and hot water to quell the itching when it starts. Fricking miserable to have it. I'm the only one in my family allergic to it. eta - baking soda paste applied to blistered areas and never tried it, but cider vinegar is supposed to speed up the healing.

Changed jobs and lost my insurance... Can't get on the wife's till November which is why im asking... You use straight bleach? Or cut it in a bath?
I'm liable to just go to the urgent care and get a shot and just take the hit

I had a dermatologist give me a script for Pandel. It is a cream an knocks it out quick. Got a doc friend that will write your wife a script?

Not in this state... I left the medical field when I left MS. Think some guys at work have some connections here. I know attorneys, engineers, an architect and nurses... The lady is a SLP... But no fricking docs!!

If its not too bad, try some over the counter TecNu. It will normally knock it out in a week, a key ingredient is mineral spirits.
I also use it after working in the yard and it cleans the oil off pretty well, then I take a cold shower and use dial dish washing liquid as soap.
I hate poison ivy.

Call a few walkin clinics and get their cash price for a visit and a decadron injection, should be able to get it for about $75, not too much different than having a deductible
Other than that take benedryl by mouth and as a topical and wait it out, all the other crap people talk about don't really help, it was just the last thing they tried before it went away by itself

Scaulding hot shower
Scratch it until it bleeds
Pour rubbing alcohol all over it.

Get your neighbor to give you a golden shower...it's the least he can do.

bleach
This. Take a day to dry it out. Dab it on extra heavy and let it dry. Usually gone in a week.

I posed this same question last week. I scrubbed the rash with dawn dish soap, NO water. Rinsed it off with water then rubbed on baking soda and then rinsed that off with vinegar.
Keep applying a rag soaked in vinegar periodically throughout the day. My rash dried up in 2-3 days.

Not that expensive to pay out of pocket.Doc visit between 60-100 bucks and script and injection in office another 50-150. Just a guess, but if it was me and i was ate up with that i would borrow the money. In 12 hrs or less you would not be itching and it would be gone in 2 days.

This unless you start to swell, then hit a doctors office ASAP.
