The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced today that the property known as Union Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will no longer be part of the department’s WMA program, effective July 1, 2015. LDWF has decided to conclude the long-term lease with Plum Creek Timber Company on approximately 10,000 acres in Union Parish, focusing instead on supporting wildlife management efforts in other WMAs within the LDWF system.

For many years, Plum Creek provided hunting access on this WMA in northeast Louisiana. The company will now offer these lands for lease to individuals or hunting clubs. Additional information about recreational leasing opportunities is available at www.plumcreek.com/recreation.

Anybody ever hunted this place before?

Wick, you seem to be pretty financially stable and a perfectly reasonable person. I think it would be a great mark on your legacy if you leased the whole thing for OB hunting club.

And let me run dogs on it, and don't allow disk golf.

Send me a work detail schedule as soon as you work one up. No rush, but I would prefer for it to be before bow season so I can get some of these fine folk to clear out my foodplots for me.

2 nice courses within 30 minutes. we could do a morning hunt, then play DG all afternoon, then head back to the camp for beer and BBQ.

That's no problem. You could turn some loose. I promise I won't shoot them the day after you let them go.

I used to go every thanksgiving week and weekend.
2-3 days of flooded timber duck hunting and 2-3 days either sex deer.
Awesome WMA because it was never crowded and it's secluded.
We often cooked for half the campground lol

Will miss it. Lots of deer and ducks

That's the second WMA owned by Plum Creek that was turned into lease land. Georgia Pacific WMA in Morehouse parish was leased out during Mike Foster's last term as governor. Jindal's last term as governor and we lose a Plum Creek owned WMA in the adjacent parish.

I killed 3-4 deer in Union in 91-92 or so, saw deer each time I went if I remrmber at all. Those years were a tad sketchy.

Never hunted the WMA, but our club bordered it up at Oakland, Cane Creek Hunting Club. This was back in late 80's and early 90's. We always killed 30-40 deer a year if I remember correctly. A few good bucks were killed through the years.
