Tundra rims - chrome flaking off?

Anyone else have this issue? Truck is a 2014 Louisiana edition. They have already replaced one set about 6 months ago. Chrome is flaking off the new ones already... of course Price LeBlanc is giving me the run around on this set!!! ??

I think special edition rims like those are aftermarket, as in not from the manufacturer, similar to the TSS edition. It's kind of a regional thing. All you can do is bitch and moaning. Maybe sell them and get some limited rims.

Contact dealership. It's an issue. Had friends with same problems. Pretty sure they made it right.

Speaking as a former Toyota Parts Manager, DSD is correct. Factory Toyota wheels will have "toyota" marked on them somewhere, usually under the center cap around the lugs. Being a "Louisiana Edition" tells me it's not a factory Toyota wheel. Keep pressing the dealer to replace them under warranty. Soon, those wheels won't be available anymore because the manufacturer will have discontinued them or gone out of business.
If there's a different wheel you might be happy with, press them to swap yours for those other ones. If the service department won't work with you, ask to speak to the dealership's Customer Relations Manager. Keep pressing. Ask the CRM to bring in the district service manager if they still won't help you.
As an example, in 2006 there was a Darrel Waltrip edition Tundra. It had special wheels and we could never get one customer's wheels to balance. We tried several brands of tires. Ended up swapping the wheels out for a set of Factory wheels. It can be done. You just have to press.

Toyota wheels suck quality wise. I had the stuff coming off of my '06 Tacoma wheels.

I spent $600 and had mine completely refinished on my 2012 Tundra TSS back in 2015. Figured that wasn't a bad price for 20" rims. And they came out looking brand new.

That does sound like a good price but Toyota wheel quality blows.

Just spray paint them black, homeboy.

so you paid $600 to have the "factory" chromes sandblasted and refinished? I'm curious bc I was thinking about doing this myself anyway. Just dont like the chrome, but got a great deal on the truck...
ETA: I want them flat black

This. I got a White '14 TSS Tundra and they had options for the chrome or black rims with the BFG All-Terrains when I bought it at Fred Hass in H-town. I went with the black ones since I was afraid the chromes would chip. I guess I was right and then, chrome went out of style in the 90's.

Yeah, you should try to stand out a little and get black wheels.

Well mine aren't chrome, they are machine metal with a clear coat gloss finish. They blasted them, then re-coated them. They looked brand new, and have held up, up until now, other than typical road hazard chips here and there, but there is no avoiding that.

I'm curious to see what the chrome rims look like in March after a whole season of gravel gumbo hunting roads. If they're too messed up, I want to sandblast the chrome off and re-coat with something. Black or clear coat--not real picky, just dont like the look of messed up chrome.

We never saw issues with FACTORY Toyota wheels. However, with the extraordinary amount of special editions in the Gulf States Toyota region, there are more non-factory wheels than factory wheels on the roads around here and there will always be more issues with those "aftermarket" wheels (that's what they are, I won't sugarcoat it).

PLASTI-DIP -love this stuff. My BIL coated his entire denali and ATV with it one year.
Stuff is hard to get off though, but thats the point.

The TSS editions do not have Factory wheels. They're simply aftermarket wheels with a Toyota emblem on them (some of them don't even have the emblem anymore).
Here's the deal. All Toyota dealerships in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and I think some of Alabama are a part of the Gulf States Toyota Region. This region is a PRIVATELY owned "franchise" so-to-speak. This means they allow dealers and the distribution port, itself (Houston) to install non-toyota parts on them yet still honor those parts under the factory Warranties. Obviously the biggest issue with this is quality. The other issue later down the road is availability.
The ONLY "package" that Toyota uses on trucks that keeps FACTORY wheels is the TRD OFF ROAD packages. But even that isn't always a given since some dealers will take an already equipped TRD edition and add different wheels and accessories.
Conclusion? When considering buying a Toyota in this area, always do your homework. Ask to ensure all accessories are GENUINE TOYOTA ACCESSORIES and not what we called "port or dealer installed".

Is an LED light bar standard or optional on that edition?
