Truck Bed Tent? Any Reviews Out There?

OB....I've always used a regular tent for camping. But in northern CA (especially on the coast) we tend to get a bunch of dew in the mornings. I typically will put a tarp underneath my tent to help combat any moisture.
But the thought occurred to me to elevate myself off the ground to do the same thing. So it begs the question...any reviews out there?
This is kind of what I'm thinking.

Get a rack for the roof or bed and mount a purpose built roof tent. You don't want to have to empty the bed every night.
Look at overland builds.

My inlaws drove up to Yellowstone a few years ago from BR, and father in law ended up buying a camper shell before the trip and they slept on a real mattress in the bed of the truck for several nights while there, and did hotel rooms on the drive up and back.

I think it would work fine in that you are off the ground and would not have nearly the exposure to critters and creatures that you would on the ground.
I think the negatives would be that you now have air circulating all around you, so it may be less comfortable when the weather is cool. also, trucks move quite a bit, so if there were more than one sleeping, the place would rock around a pretty good bit if someone turned over.

IIRC, those things are expensive AF. Get a camper shell. You can mount it to be removable, and you can also build things like shelving, an actual bed frame, storage, water storage, etc to be removable. Just get some wood and start building your own custom cabin.
You can run batteries, an invertor, or even a small generator and have power for lights, a fan, a TV, or whatever you want.

That's a bit more than I had imagined.

That's a bunch of stuff, it's minimalist if you do it right.
Basically just allows you to be quick without having to move shite into your cab.

Why not just put a tarp over your tent, like an easy up or something?
If you're dealing with condensation from inside, make sure you have it vented as much as possible. Maybe a 12v rechargeable fan or something would help.

This requires you to break camp to go somewhere. No thanks.

He's probably not looking to spend 2-3k

Check out "Expedition Portal" forum.
I have spent hours on the forum looking at the Adventure/Trip Reports.

If you hunt or fish by yourself, I can see doing a cheaper tent with an air mattress. I've known multiple guys that slept in the bed with some sort of topper on their bed, most used a cot.
I don't see the investment in those nice things, for those prices you could buy a pop up or small pull behind travel trailer.

I bought the exact one in that picture.
The zipper broke the third time I used it.
It was very comfortable and easy to set up. On the first trip it rained and it stayed dry with no issue.
I bought the bed air mattress to go with it and the few times I used it, it was very comfortable.
I have since switched to the Coleman instatent, quick set up tent with cots.

If you make it flat over the fenderwells, a regular double mattress will fit in the bed of a normal truck
