Transferring Title of Utility Trailer

Im trying to make sure I do everything correctly, so any info will help.
I'm buying a used utility trailer from a private party seller, what do I need other than a bill of sale to have the title transferred over to my name? Can I just go to the DMV with the title and a notarized bill of sale and they will transfer it to my name?

All you need is a notarized title. Bill of sale not necessary to have it transferred. Good to have for your records

If it is anything like the Alabama DMV, make sure all names match exactly on the title and the Bill of Sale. As well as anything you put a date on. I had some issues transferring a car into my name because my Mom signed it over to me and one said Rob and the other Robert. Had to get this form filled out and notarized that when she wrote one she meant the other.
But all you should need is a bill and title. You may not even need a bill of sale.

make sure the VIN is still visible on the trailer... a lot of times the sticker will be gone making it tough to ID the trailer.

Yea the guy who sells it to you needs to be the name on the title.

a notary can do it all for you. Have the seller meet you at a notary do the transaction there. I just did this for a utility trailer and utv.

There are mobile notarys as well. There is a lady local to me that will come to the house and do all the paperwork for an extra $10 plus her notary fee

You need a notary. If it’s a Louisiana Title then OMV will ABSOLUTELY require a Bill of Sale and the title conveyed. Without a Bill of Sale you won’t get far with OMV even if it’s with a “conforming,” Title here in LA.
The BOS and the Title must both be notarized.
Signed,
LA Notary Public

Im actually looking at buying a trailer now where the current owner has the notarized Title / bill of sale from when he bought it, but he never registered it in his name. Does he need to register it before I can take clean title? Or can we do a “double transfer” as he claims?
