Can anyone recommend a place to have maintenance done on trailer bearings in Lafayette area? Thanks for the advice.

What do you need done to them?

It's relatively simple mechanically speaking. Even a complete hub rebuild.

Not sure if they do service, but a while back I needed some tang washers for my trailer and UTEC is the only place I could find them on a weekend. The guys were super nice in there and had tons of odds and ends parts. I'd give them a call.

I am sure there are places closer but I get mine done in New Iberia at Iberia Outboard.

You talking about the wheel bearings? Its pretty simple to do. Only odd tool you may need would be a bearing puller but you could probably rent that from autozone or some place. Youtube some videos of it being done and you'll see its pretty easy.

Figure out what bearings you need and go to Motion Industries and get the good bearings. Most over the counter are Chinese bearings, and the extra $5 per bearing for American made is worth it. Bring those bearings to whatever shop you decide to use, but doing it yourself is fairly easy/quick task, messy, but easy.

Are you talking about a 2x4 and a hammer?

I catch the backside of the top with a 2x4 and apply leverage from the trailer while tapping the backside of the bottom with a hammer. Walk it right off unless it's extremely burred. You may need a file then...

I have the worst luck with bearings. I keep a spare tire and spare hub assembly for my boat trailer. You are just as likely to burn your bearings up as get a flat it seems.

The question was posted on my behalf(thanks by the way)...I noticed grease running down rim, I read that could be bad seals. Grease is also 2 different colors in hub.

Opinions, besides needing grease?
My first post be gentle.

Just find a bearing set with seals and everything. For under $20 you could probably get the bearings, seals, dust cover and cotter pin. You might as well replace everything since you'll be in there and it doesn't cost a lot of money.

Replace existing bearings with a bearing buddy.
