Today I towed my tractor for the first time with the Cokorado. (Capacity 7000#)

Ford 3600 - 4500#
Bushhog - 450#
Trailer 1800# (7000# gvwr)
Estimated total 6800#

It accelerated slowly, braked slowly felt a kinda squirelly, and shifted weird on a couple hills. I got 14mpg, and usually get 23-27. (I barely notice a 2000# bay boat.)

Weighed at a truck stop and was 11400#, including the 4230# truck. That's about 170# over the limit, but it includes me and my buddy that weight , bout 350, plus tools in the bedand mics cargo.

The good news is I got all the bushhogging done at the camp and access road. I just hate towing heavy shite; I'm just a a banker that likes going to the woods.

Gas or Diesel. I'm looking at a used Canyon with the diesel. I've read good things but would like to know from someone first hand.

Did your engine temp run on the high side?

It's gas. The engine never got hot. I was just under the towing capacity. It just impressed me how much braking and accelerating were affected. And the downshift going uphill put the RPMS up to 5500 for a second. Probably my mistake for using cruise control; it never did that when it wasn't on cruise. I was also using the "tow mode" feature.

I'm satisfied with everything else about the truck. Glad I dont tow 7000# often.

I am going to guess braking and acceleration were affected by payload not capacity. 9 out 10 times you will exceed your payload long before capacity. Pin weight is usually 15-20% of trailer weight, your payload left with 2 guys in the truck is probably 1000lbs or less

Are you talking about the tongue weight or having a total weight of 11400#?

Steer axle 2060#
Drive axle 5560#
Trailer axles 3780#

Sounds heavy on rear axle and light on the steer axle, but steering was fine. The rear end squatted 5" when hitched.

Tongue weight - it is easy to check your actual payload - fill your truck up and drive on a scale with just you - subtract this weight from your GVWR and the difference is your payload. This gets eaten up quickly by tongue weight, passengers, and junk in the back of your truck - usually this is exceeded when you start to squat bad and have trouble accelerating and braking.

I have the diesel Canyon and I love it. I pull mine and my dad's fiberglass bass boats all over the place and it does great!

I really hope that trailer has brakes, towing a load like that without is asking for trouble especially when the trailer outweighs the truck by almost 2x

Pulling 6800lbs of non-aero tractor through hills you got 14mpg?

I have two questions about the diesel if you don't mind?
Is the fuel mileage as advertised?
How's the gitty up with it?

I'm ok with the mileage (gas v6). I get more than advertised if I don't drive fast. The towing mpg seems low at first, but considering almost 2x the truck weight, about half the mileage ain't to bad.

I get 26-28 mpgs on the interstate doing 70-75.
If I stay under 70 i get 28-32, so it's pretty sweet.

The gitty up is fine, nothing special, but if you gas it it goes my dad was very impressed with how fast i got up to speed merging on the interstate pulling a boat.

That's the color I want. I'm looking used at a diesel right now, but they have some good prices on the 2017 LT package with the V6. I'm going to go drive both and pull the trigger on one.
