Headed to Toledo bend for the first time soon and staying at a campground on the water. Are there any special rules, written or unwritten, that I should know about?

For instance is there any water accessible from the lake that is off limits? Should you avoid fishing near piers/docks of home/camp owners? Anything else I should know?

Fishing grass and flooded timber is off limits. Game Wardens will write you a ticket if they see you doing such

White bouys/pipes mark the center of boatlanes and green or red bouys/pipes are marking the outside edges of boat lanes. Be cautious when not in boat lanes.

Lake is public property. Don't be a dick and be very aware that Toledo bend is a stump field. If you hammer on it off the boat road you will catch at tree.

Good luck bud.

If you are riding in the boat lane and decide to stop pull to the side in case someone is behind you.

I was there 2 weeks ago and the water was up. Don't be fooled that it's clear to haul arse outside the boat lane, you will be sorry.

No.

I fished this year with a guy that lives on the lake. He was hesitant to fish other's docks. I thought he was crazy. I know why he thinks that way, but it's not a common attitude.

Thanks Capital Cajun...

I am actually really cautious (probably too much) about riding in open water, much less a stump field so my main concern is we might not venture too far and miss some good sights/fishing.

Do you have any general guidelines on riding with any speed there? I read that near white markers is really safe, but be careful on the edges near red/green ones due to the wide variety in depths can make the bouys run away from the actual boundary.

I have two speeds there. Stop and full blast. At this lake level, the boat lanes will be clear, but yeah-no need to hang by the edges.

Just don't run with any hull in the water.

I remember seeing a sawed off top of a 25" diameter tree about 4" under the water in the red and greens. Of course, that was when the lake was about 165. I just went along pretending I didn't see it.

If it makes any difference, the campgrounds are right next to San Patricio bayou on the Louisiana side.. not sure if the lake changes drastically from place to place or not

Yep. I tended to run the river way up when it was at that level or lower. I talked to Burgay the other day and he said they are doing pretty well up there right now. Willie's hole is prolly on.
