Heading to Toledo bend this weekend. I'm going to be tent camping at South Toledo Bend State park. What's the fishing report? I'm reading that most of the lunkers caught on the lake are caught prespawn.

Any advice/help is appreciated. I've fished here before. TIA

My dad is in Toledo Bend right now. I told him he better go mark that waypoint.

PS: They caught a couple dozen today. Nothing big. Don't know where or on what though.

My dad has been up there since Friday. He caught a good bit up north Friday and Saturday, including a couple of six pounders. Most fish on senkos and squarebills.

He went to Six Mile Sunday and Monday, and caught 10 Sunday on a Carolina rig in 10-17 foot of water. Lost a 7-8 on a rattle trap in some shallower water.

Wednesday and Thursday he fished blue lake, and slaughtered them. 13 keepers Wednesday, and they caught their limit yesterday. Yesterday he said they caught 40+ fish on topwaters, mainly reeling a speed craw on top. He caught another 6 pounder yesterday, too, but not on top.

Wow, I would have never tried that.

He caught a 30+ pound bag one day in February a couple years ago doin that, and ever since he tries it when it's a warm pre-frontal day early in the year.

That's too cool. I've never thought about that before. Was he throwing it over grass or around wood?

I have had better quality bite on a chug bug in February than I ever have in the late summer known typical top water months on Rayburn and Toledo.

Speed craw, horny toad/rage toad. If it paddles, and you scoot it across the top they'll hit it.

I find the speed craw to have a higher hook-up ratio since there is less plastic in the way. They're lighter though so you don't get the casting distance like with a horny-toad.

Grass. Said he found a little shallow flat, like so shallow he was using his trolling motor to anchor him and there was a bunch of weeds growing from the bottom mixed with floating grass

Wow... That's shallow. I will remember that next time I find something like that. I guess it's smaller size keeps it from spooking them when they are thst shallow.

I put a 1/16 ounce weight on sometimes, it's not a lot but it helps with casting and doesn't really drag it down.

A speed craw is deadly anyway you fish it. You can fish it top water, swim it, or drag it and its going to catch fish.

Anybody fish white perch out there? We always go in may and didn't catch shite last year. They didn't have the grass they normally have. Anybody know a better time to fish them or what the grass is looking like this year? We always just troll

Only grass I've seen has been in Housen and Six Mile. We usually fish white perch at night, hanging lanterns on stumps and then fishing under them.

Same. My usual May slaughter was a total bust.

Mill Creek on the North bank has grass in several areas from the mouth of the bay plum to clear creek point. Not heavy but consistent
