Toledo Bend hay grass tips?

So, my scouting trip Saturday revealed that there is no hydrilla or millfoil on any of my usual perch spots for Memorial Day weekend at the dam. Looks like 4 days of no crappie. I guess I'll have to fish for bass. The only movement we saw all day was in the hay grass. Set me up 3 rods please. Time of day and technique would help. I still can't believe I am going to have to bass fish.
Oh, and if any of you have heard of a perch bite on the south end, let me know.

Schedule one of those pontoon boat guides for your family on Saturday, then go whack them the rest of the weekend.

All you need is a frog and a punch rig. I'd start with a 1 1/4 oz. weight on the punch rig and go up or down in weight accordingly.

We were catching them in and on the bank side of the hay grass a month ago. If I was going this weekend, I'd slow roll a spinner bait, and drag a carolina rig on the deep side. Get so far off you can barely reach the grass.
That's not an established pattern, just how I'd attack it.

If it's an annual thing plant your own brush piles dude. We plant 15.-20 mid lake every year in the winter and crush all summer long. Good luck with your 1 hr window of top water fishing early and late.

Friend of mine won the H&W this weekend with 27 lbs. They caught a couple early on top water, then punched haygrass with an Elite Tungsten Punch Rig/speed craw the rest of the day. South end TX side.

They were throwing a zoom speed craw on it, beaver would probably work too.

White hollow body frog early in the mornin, the punch the grass with a black/blue or black/red beaver or craw worm.
Also, don't be scared to throw a black frog in the shade under cypress trees once it gets on in the day and the sun is high. Caught 16 pounds weekend before last and every fish came on a frog.

are you still fishing up north in blue lake area? Had a buddy fished big bass splash and said he could catch 20 lbs every morning but nothing over 5lbs on a white frog in bushes. he was in san patricio

Been fishing San Miguel and Patroon. Not quite as far north as Blue Lake, but the last time we were there we caught them good early in the mornings on white frogs and then later in the day on black. Didn't catch 20 pounds but had 16 in my club tournament. All on frogs.

I'm also headed there this weekend, got a sac-a-lait trip on Saturday, we will be staying on north side of Lanana. What type of frogs are y'all using?

I use Snag Proof. Bobby's perfect frog is what it's called. Comes with a rattle already in it, legs already trim, and has a separate chamber for the hooks so it doesn't take on water. Plus it's a buck cheaper than Spro.

White in the morning (shad spawn)
Swim jig,rIbbit, frog, fluke.
Punch the rest of the day
Big piole, big weight, D Bomb or speed craw
I use Fitzgerald rods especially for punching
That's my preference
They're bui for punching and you will not have a problem with eyes etc like the mass produced rods
I use 7'8" Titan
