Does anyone have any experience with the Japanese model Shimanos? I was looking at a couple, but don't know anyone who has had one. Are they durable? Half as good as the US versions?

They're probably better and radioactive.

Are you talking about the older reels (Curado E) that were made/produced in Japan vs. the newer models made in Malaysia?

Or the new reels like the Antares and Metanium?

I was talking about the scorpions specifically. They are Japanese import only. They are sold in the US that I know of. They make quite a few models of this reel.

Interesting.

It looks like they are available for pre-order through japantackle for $219.

Seems to have the new body styling, SVS braking, etc.

Yeah, I'm just not sure if they're worth spending the money on. I'd hate to get one and it be a bust. I'm pretty sure that the customer service in the US, when buying a product and having it shipped from Japan is less than desirable.

They are smaller then US models to fit smaller hands.

So, you are saying I need to order a flesh light from Japan too?

After some reading, it sounds like it is basically a Curado with MINOR differences (different bearings).

You are probably also right about the customer service not being as helpful.

Unless you want the novelty of saying you have a "japanese" reel, it seems best to buy a Curado or something.
