Thoughts on the Browning Gold?

Over the last year I've kinda started another small Browning shotgun collection. (Had several before but had to sell for financial reasons a few years back) I've bought two Auto 5's and most recently a BPS. Now looking at a Gold. I've heard some mixed reviews especially with the 3-1/2" versions which I don't plan to buy. Would rather have the 3" as I don't ever see the need to shoot 3-1/2" anyway. Anyone have any experience with the Gold?

I love my 3.5" gold. Would not trade it for any other gun.

The first generation Browning Gold 3" guns were problematic. The ejector had problems and sometimes the action wouldn't fully close after firing. Browning subsequently made at least two revisions to the design of the action.
I bought one when they first hit the shelves and used it as a turkey gun for a decade. The shell often would partially eject. Fortunately, not getting off a second shot only cost me one bird along the way. I harvested a lot of birds with that gun before making the jump to a Benelli 20 several years back.

I have one of these first generation 20GA Gold Hunters. It will cycle high brass w/o problem, but gets hung on low brass. I've cleaned it, taken it to a gunsmith, but no resolution. I've been trying to figure out how to fix it, b/c my main use for it was dove, woodcock and squirrel hunting. Pretty much limited to the latter now.

I have two browning gold 12ga and both have been flawless. My first was a 3" bought around 1996 and it has had several thousand rounds put through it and still works great. The other is a 3-1/2" bought around 2000 and it has served me well also. I like the feel of these guns and they are simple to strip as well.

I have a .28 gauge BPS. I like it.

Have never heard goid things about the Gold. Mainly the cycling problem.
While helping someone fumble to reassemble a Browning gas gun recently I honestly wondered why anybody would choose such an complicated setup instead of a Benelli.

I have one and it has served me well over the years, but I wouldn't buy another one or recommend anyone to buy one. It seems there are much better guns than this one these days.
I just put $300 into it to have the ports sealed and a sure cycle I out in it. I'll use it for another year or two, but I'm the market for a new one: I don't think I'll be getting a browning.

It boils down to what level of maintenance you are willing to do. Are you willing to clean your gun after every duck hunt? If not, it's not for you.
I can clean what needs to be done in 5-10 mins. If it gets water in the action area will take 20-30 mins. I probably overdo it but I also haven't had many issues. Own 12 and 20ga gold hunter, maxus, and bps.

I had a Browning Gold Fusion in 12 gauge, and it was stolen out my truck. That is all.

Get a different gun.

Thanks for the info. I'm not really looking for it to be my main duck gun. The Auto 5 magnum gets that responsibility. I mostly just a fan of Browning shotguns and would like to have a few different ones. Never been a fan of Beretta and never shot a Benelli. May eventually get one of the new A5's at some point. I was just wondering how they held up for you guys that used them regularly.
That sucks! I've shot one of those before. It was a good shooting gun.

I'm dying to get one, but $1300 is a bit much.

What? Are they good or something?

If you were "never a fan" there should be a reason for that opinion, right?
And to answer your question, yes. Beretta and Benelli are equal IMO and at the top of the game.

They aren't all they're cracked up to be. I purchased the Maxus because the Gold was giving me trouble. After spending $1500 I thought I should be good, nope. Had issues with the Maxus also. My buddy has the Silver and it's been a complete nightmare since day one. I would recommend another brand.

I guess we need a "sarcasm" font on here.
Yes, there is a couple of reasons I don't care for Beretta shotguns
.
1. They don't fit me.
2. I just never cared for their styling. Not that styling means anything as far as performance, still just don't care for them. I also prefer wood & blued guns. But I do have some synthetics.
I know Beretta is good quality stuff was just being sarcastic. I just have always preferred Browning. To each his own...
