Check out the full breakdown of the "tissue sample" program spending. Blew my mind when I saw these guys offshore in new boats when they could have simply sat a team at the dock all day offering token compensation for catch info and collecting samples from the cleaning station.

They averaged 4 fish per rod/reel. That's the real disappointment here.

Barham is a pretty solid honest guy. Don't think you will find anyone who knows him to say differently. Only knock I have on him as secretary was delisting the black bear a little quick. That was his main goal as secretary and wanted it to be delisted before he was out of office

The way the BP money was given out was a total fiasco. They were giving it to anyone. Billboards and tv ads everywhere to give it away

I would like to see the terms of the money given to LDWF. It could have easily been money that they didn't ask for and forced to spend That happens in the Govt world. You get one time money and have to spend it up. Can't stash it away

That does not give them the authority to spend it on whatever they want without any oversight. A $90,000 RV? Come on man, that egregious. You also seem to be glossing over all the unaccounted for equipment that was neither required nor used in the samplings.

BP money or not, they spent it on anything and everything they wanted without concern. Do you not see a problem with that?

I see a big problem with it but i would like to see the stipulations when they received the money.

When someone is throwing you money and telling you that you have to spend it, well....

Ahead of schedule and under budget. That's what I see.

No dude, that's not how it works. What WLF did was at best an embarrassment to the state, and criminal at worst.

If you are ok with how the agency handled this situation then having a dissuasion is a waste of time. Our opnions on WLF are so polar opposite that no middle ground can exist. I would be more likely to convince the OT that Jesus didn't actually walk on water.

I feel they did us a huge injustice. Everyone just rolls their eyes and chuckles about Louisiana politics at it's finest. It's fricking embarrassing.

Hyperbole much?

I have no idea why LDWF spending a corporation's money fast and loose in a time when it was being passed out hand over fist rustles your feathers so much. If anyone should be pissed it should be shareholders of BP, as it was their money being passed out with no oversight to give the public illusion of an oil spill response. It's very simple, and has been spelled out multiple times, if LDWF hadn't found ways to spend this money it wouldn't have been given to them. Not a single taxpayer dime was misspent. Period. End. Fin.

So BP had a set amount of money they were going to give the LDWF to perform these test. LWDF took some of the money, bought a bunch of shite, and performed the test. They also left a lot of the money on the table and BP took it back. Why not take the money and buy a bunch of shite? If you don't, the money just goes to somebody else. They didn't take tax payer money. They took "free" BP money and used it for what it was intended for. Was some of it excessive? Sure. But who cares? BP was doling it out. It was costing taxpayers jack shite.

This statement should end the thread, but Barf will continue whining for three pages about how LDWF should have found a way to use that money to buy all the marsh from the big bad rich duck hunters with mud boats.

Last time I checked federal grant money was the very definition of tax payer dimes.

This is pretty inaccurate. That money was ultimately deducted from the final settlement amount from BP, so it absolutely could have been spent elsewhere later, most likely on restoration projects. It wasn't technically "taxpayer money," but it was absolutely money that belongs to the taxpayers, as the taxpayers are the state.
