I don't get the point of these things.
Pretty niche market. Skinny water motorized canoes basically. Very popular in Florida due to no motor zones. Easy to pole which is why fly fishers like them.

Guess it poles better than a flats skiff. What do they draft ?

Floats in spit. Literally. Crazy stable for its size. Perfect for a lot of the inner marsh of Louisiana.

Probably easier to push around due to less weight. They are bigger than a kayak and you can put a motor on them for cheaper than a flats skiff. Can probably find a used one for not much more than a peddle kayak.

Yeah thats another thing, they can be found for cheap. Tons of nice setups are constantly on sale for around $2000.

That makes sense

Plus there's something about running 35mph in a canoe that's a little exhilarating

Paid around 3500 for mine brand new custom built with a trailer.
Its basically a go cart on water. Pretty fun to run. And ive hopped marsh floaton in it as well

That's my draw to them, I fish out of a kayak currently. I've seen several used in the $2500-$3500 range, tough to justify dropping that much on a kayak when I can pick up a used Gheenoe, extend my range significantly, and still access pretty much the same waters. A Solo Skiff is $1850 for just the hull, a Classic is $2100.
It'll be a while before I'm in the market for one, unless I come across a $500 project like the OP. There's a center console LT25 for sale in Lafayette but those are usually way out of my range.

Same thing.
You ever fish out of yours?

My neighbor has one with a 20 or 25 Merc on it. Rigged with a trolling motor and stick steer. Always thought it would be a great boat for the inner marsh, way more stable than a yak......big factor for us slightly overweight guys.

Yea. I used to fish reds and have caught trout out of it.
My dream trip is to find a day that is calm and go catch mahi mahi out of it.
Customgheenoe.com has foruns with some awesome set ups people have.
I want to put a 25hp and jack plate on mine to run places like biloxi marsh during duck season.

Yeah I plan on hunting out of mine next duck season. Should be perfect for it.
Yeah some people have a ton of money in theirs

I may take you up on that one day, outside of Youtube rabbit holes and internet dreaming I've never been around one. I already know how I want it laid out though. It seems like the logical next step for me though, I don't have a need for a big boat and all the shallow draft skiffs around out of my price range.

Yeah man whenever you want to go we can. What layout are you thinking?
I moved into this after kayak fishing for 6 years and it makes it so much more enjoyable.

Thinking of putting a very small like 2.5 to 5 horse outboard that I can carry. Thoughts??
Posted on 3/9/17 at 1:24 pm to Earthmover
What size gheenoe is it? And I would get a 5 or 6hp
Posted on 3/9/17 at 1:24 pm to YOURADHERE
There are a few for sale on Microskiff right now

I'd like either a LT25 or a Classic, raised front deck, poling platform on the rear, and do away with the center box and replace it with a permanently mounted ice chest, tiller steer. Seems like the center console would take up room on a boat where room is limited.
If/when I do ever pull the trigger I'd probably just order the bare hull from Gheenoe and build the rest out myself.
ETA: Similar to this but instead of the box just leave it open for a 65qt cooler.
