Good eats there. Why jump? wasp nest or snake falls into the boat, jump.

I would think a dead body would startle me.

They are rare, too. Populations have taken a serious decline is what I've read.

I've never caught one.
I don't think they hit ivory soap.

I used to see them from time to time on the Ouachita river around Monroe...
as fish says, I heart they are pretty good to eat...I wouldn't keep one though, as I hear they are endangered...
not sure why you would catch one on a trot line, as I think they are plankton feeders...

It was hooked through the spoon not the mouth, i think it was bottom feeding and just ran into the line.

Anytime my line gets snagged on the bottom and take some muscle to pull up, I am convinced there is a tree shaker gator down there caught on my line.

Careful.... I think in some states they are only legal by snag line due to protection laws. Very cool though. Never seen I e on person, but my good friend who moved to Iowa loves catching them.

There were a bunch washed up near Pearl River and Bayou Liberty/Bayou Bonfouca in Slidell after Katrina

Snag a good many at the Ouachita river locks in Columbia. They are good to eat

I remember when I was younger we would go crawfishing at the south farm in Ramah and I would stay at the front and fish since I didn't like crawfishing and I would see spoonbills jumping out the water in the pit by the levee.
