Are you sure that last pic of the green snake is an eyelash viper? It looks kind of different from other eyelash vipers.

Pretty sure, but not 100 percent. They come in tons of colors and my farmer said it was an eyelash viper.

Thanks for the identification on the other snake. I remember my farmer explaining it ate snails, so you're right.

I got one crappy photo of a rat snake the other day. Other than that, it's been the year of the garter snake for me so far.

Here's a few photos anyway.

Five lined skink

A wolf spider

Another eastern garter snake

And another enormous five lined skink

Random, but do you surf? I'm looking at a surf trip for the fall and looking for some longboard friendly waves in Costa. I went to Nica a couple years ago and mostly found hollow reef breaks, which was fine then, but I don't surf nearly as much as I used to and I'm trying to find a spot in central America with some mellow points for logging. I've avoided entertaining the idea of going to Costa just because I've always heard the lineups were super crowded. Any input?

P.S. - herp related. A garter snake found himself in my office hallway this morning. Once I talked everyone out of smashing him, I caught him and let him go outside. I'll post pics.

Nice shots. Those first two are hard to take in bright sunlight.

What kind of macro setup for the spider?

My camera is an old Nikon D80. Hoping to upgrade fairly soon. The lens is a Tokina 100mm f2.8 pro yadda yadda macro. And I have a cheap ring light for flash.

I would say Nosara has the waves you are looking for and a few sweet deserted little coves just north of there always have a swell for a longboard. There is a spot between two rocks that are about 50 yards apart that has consistent chilled waves with sand bottom just a couple of miles just north of Nosara. It's right off the road. You can park 10 yards from it. Can't miss it if scouting. Its one of my favorite little breaks in the world. I can't remember if it had a name or not. I used to live in Nosara and taught my 3 year old (at the time) daughter to surf a longboard in no time.

Not sure about crowds, but I'm sure they are everywhere now in big surf destinations in CR, except for maybe around October when it rains non stop

Nice, I think all of my above pics were shot with a 100mm and a bunch of Yadda Yadda, but an off camera flash. Always wanted a ring flash.

Beautiful. I caught a rough green snake Sunday that was super docile. No pic since I already posted one.

Ribbon vs. Garter. I didn't realize how close they can be. I've probably been misidentifying them all along.

Not a herp, but I came across a big Luna moth in my backyard and got some pretty good pictures with this macro lens that attaches to my phone.

Well... Thanks for telling me I live a life of lies.... I always thought they were one and the same figured it was just different names of the same animal. Salt n pepper king snake/speckled king snake type thing.

Nice! At one point I was seriously considering a herd of leopard tortoises to keep my back yard mowed. I have an Egyptian tortoise, but she's too small for yard duty, and they don't do well in humidity.

The guy we bought him from said he has 7 in his yard and doesn't have to mow
We've been having him for about 8 months
I'm still doing research to find out how smart they are. I read different stories
