Got out a little over the past 3-4 days. Went to my local creek for some wild browns and managed a few. Pics of the creek below. Then got out on the river this morning for the first salmon fishing trip of the year. Got skunked (for salmon at least) but still enjoyed getting out there. I think this time next week will be much better as they're just now starting to come into the river from Lake ontario.

For you new fly fishermen - if you aren't sure what fly to use then you should be looking under the submerged rocks to expose little guys like these. Whatever you find under the rocks is at least part of what's being eaten by the trout at that time. This one is a golden stonefly nymph.

Found this little guy in the river this morning. Can anyone ID? Sorry I forgot to take river pics.

Thought that was the case but not sure. I've heard that it's great fishing up in that area.

Wild browns and brookies are the best, no matter what size.

Spent the last few days on the upper part of the Cossatot. Near 'nuff crayfish on a sink tip line were the ticket to smallies. I goofed and forgot a camera. Pulled out the phone for this one, biggest of the trip.

Any of yall ever done any fly fishing in Maine, and if so, was it any good? I have family up there and wouldn't mind a fishing trip.

Just bought my first Sage. Going to get a reel for it this weekend. Likely going to put this orvis on there.

Rod will be here Thursday.

Also, the Little Mo in Arkansas was a successful trip.

Only 2.5 hours from Shreveport and theres plenty of rainbows and browns in there. Extremely easy trip, especially for beginners.

Some classic waters to consider: Penobscot, Swift, grand lake stream, Moose river, roach river

awesoem dude. Thanks for the update and sweet setup you're building there. Make sure to always check mrfc.com for high end stuff on clearance.

Went for the 2nd salmon trip of the year this past weekend. Slow going as they haven't pushed up out of the estuary and into the river yet. Had a very nice Chinook on the line but he broke the tippet. Had a decent size early season steelhead but he too broke off 10 ft from the net.

Took an impromptu trip to Broken Bow, OK this weekend (actually Beavers Bend but close to Broken Bow). It's beautiful there, but the place is entirely too crowded and it's hard to find a spot to fish. It was also heavily damaged by the floods up there in May. The folks at Beavers Bend fly shop were extremely nice but there were too many people fishing and a lot of trashy rednecks hanging around and it just ruined the experience for me. Wouldn't really recommend that trip. Maybe it was just a bad day for it, but I probably won't go back.

Nice smallmouth. That's my favorite on the fly.

Can anyone recommend good Ouachita Smallmouth trip (lodging, fly hope, etc.)?

I usually go to the MO Ozarks, but would like to try the Ouachitas in 2016.

TIA

I try to avoid it on weekends unless the weather is cold/rainy, then it's still OK. next time try zone three if you end up there on a weekend.

Finally! The salmon have arrived! Chinook making good pushes now and should continue for a couple weeks at least.

So much fun to sit there and watch the splashes all over the river as they burst through the shallows.
