Yeah. You get a booklet with some pretty nice discounts.

Yes Its through Orvis. I can't remember how much the discount was for but it wasn't a bad deal. Looking forward to it!

I was in there on sunday and the gentleman I spoke with mentioned something about a October start date - guy was helpful and patience with my questions.

Leaving Tahoe tomorrow been nothing but boating and hiking this trip. Never seen the Truckee dry like it is.

"Leaving in the morning for the White River but not sure how much fishing we will be able to get in on this trip."
If you get tired of driving and high water, swing by the Spring River on your way back to Memphis. As much as I love to fish the White and Norfork, the Spring is closer, and almost always wadeable.

That's awful. Fished the little Truckee a couple of years ago and had a great time.

Running 8 units (only have 8) for a few days now.
They were doing the same thing about a month ago when I went. It was slow compared to last year with lower flows, but my dad still caught a fat 23 inch brown. Goodluck

Alright fellas. I've got the itch. Looking for a good "starter combo" that will mainly be used for panfish, but something with the ability to haul in a bass or speckled trout. I'm guessing a 5 weight, but what's going to be a good combo for under 200 that isn't a cheap POS (do they exist?)
Been looking at the Orvis Encounter and Adamsbuilt HO2 on Amazon. Either recommended?

Entry level basspro.com or Cabella's
Both are having combo sales - I'm not the expert on here -

Are they worth a crap? Don't want something that's going to last a year or two

I bought an orvis Clearwater setup for entry level and have no complaints.

Broke down and ordered a cheaper okuma setup for freshwater (brim, bass) If I get hooked, I'll get a nice rig for saltwater. It'll arrive Saturday, and be used soon after

This is your first fly rod? What wt did you go with. I know you already ordered it but I would have gone with a 3 wt for panfish and small bass. I've pulled in quite a few small mouth with my 3wt by accident while going for trout.
I agree no need to get crazy with spending on the first one. Start out just casting, not fishing (the first time you handle the fly rod anyway).
Orvis has some really good beginner casting videos. Watch beginner videos until your eyes fall out. Go practice with some wide open spaces - nothing more frustrating than getting your line tangled in trees behind you when you're starting out (you'll get used to it while fishing).

I tied salmon flies for hours last night. I'm getting the itch, bad. I will have to hit a local trout spot to hold me over until the Chinook make their run into the river.

It's a 5 weight. I know that's overkill, but I couldn't find a decent/cheap combo in anything smaller.
I know how to cast one, my dad had one when I was a kid and then I "relearned" in high school in my outdoor education class. I've just have never owned my own or fly fished very much
If I enjoy this (I will) I plan on saving up for a nice 8-10 weight to target redfish and specks in Florida, and eventually start tying my own flies as that just seems like something I would thoroughly enjoy

Caught my first Rio Grande Cichlid yesterday at City Park. They aren't very aggressive but they put up a decent fight!

Wooly booger, also caught about 6 nice bass and a couple small perch. The weather was way to nice not to get out there and cast a line.

I know nothing about salt water fly fishing but this is, IME, the best all around fly in existence. I tie mine a little differently than most (prefer shorter marabou tail and less bushy body) but every one of my fly boxes has plenty of buggers - salmon, steelies, trout, bass all love them. For those that like to tie, try making some with short tails and see how you like it. I can post some pics of mine favorite ones if needed.
