Me and a few buddies are heading up to Tensas next week for the lottery hunt. This is all our first time headed to Tensas.! Plan is to scout all day Thursday looking for trails, etc. Any tips?

hunt near the no hunting area. Get out early. Bring a GPS.

First of all it's Federal, so read the rules and regs front to back!!!! I can't stress that enough! As stated earlier, scout near the no hunting area.

I'll be up there too. I intend to put zero scouting effort forth and hope I'm lucky.

I was really anxious about this hunt. Then I got my first bow kill this past weekend. As little as I will hunt, this season's already been good enough for me. I just look forward to sitting in the woods and the redneck/coonass watching.

Lock up your gear, if left in back of truck. We once went to Restaurant up there. Freaking thieves stole everything that wasn't bolted down. Read the rules. If you get a young, fresh out of Federal brown jeans school, he'll be a prick. No Saws, no flagging, No this, no that. They'll search too!!

Avoid the game wardens. IDK why but Tensas just seems to attract the arseholes. Also the titty bar in mound sucks now so it is not worth the trip if someody tries to talk you into the trip.

hunt the edges of the preserve. with all the activity going on a lot of deer just move out. my cousin and i love hunting his farm that borders the preserve during the lottery hunt to see what runs out of the woods.
and don't be one of those arse-hats that gives us coonasses a bad name up there.
