I have 8 Benjamin Franklins to spend. Looking for a 1911 to carry (CC), have a couple full sizes already. Should I trash this crazy idea and just try to find a P238 or P938?

The problem with a carry 1911 is they are heavy and less and less reliable with the subtraction of barrel length.

Love my 1911s but 9mm for CC. For me anyways.

Thank you for starting this thread. I'm interested in buying my first 1911. I don't know if I want a full-sized or not.

Maximum amount I want to spend: $1,200.00

I put 200 rounds through my kimber crimson pro carry 2 today, first time I've shot it as it's a new gun. Very comfortable to shoot and it was easily the most accurate .45 I've ever shot. It shits on my glock 36 in that department. Very tight groups out to 25 yards.

This is potentially going to be a great pistol that I never get rid of. I say potentially because about 5% of those 200 I fired today sent the shell casing screaming right back at my face. Now, I was wearing a toboggan and safety glasses, so no harm was done...but in the event I need to use it to defend myself I'd like to not worry about losing an eye to a piece of brass.

frick that. My Ruger P85 used to do that with certain ammo. Really annoying.

Paw Paw has this as one of his CCs. Springfield EMP 9mm. Easily concealable. I think a 3" barrel.

With a budget of $800 get the Ruger SR1911. If you can afford $1200 get a Colt Combat Commander.

Although still heavy the 4 inch/commander size is just as reliable as the 5 inch. It's the 3 inch that has some reliability issues though newer guns with good springs help with that.

Well guess I'll scratch the 1911 carry gun. Bought a Blackwood p938 today. Thanks for all the replies.

My brother has a P938. The gun is flat out fine. Great choice.

Let me know how you like it. I've had my eye on the SAS P938 for a while.

For $800, you could probably get a NIB Springfield Loaded Champion. Best 4" "off-the-shelf" I've ever carried.

The only reason I don't CC a 1911 is because I don't want to risk one of my beauties being confiscated by a cop. If he takes a Glock, whoop dee doo.
