Thinking about putting one of these on my son's 20' Xpress H20B rig. Which does the OB recommend? Plan to look at both next weekend at the boat show.

Absolutely not the talon. My biggest complaint about them is they are alwaYs up in the way. Atleast with the power pole when they are deployed their is not a six foot tall pole in the back of the boat

The talon is the same height as the motor. If you hit the talon, you shouldn't call yourself a fisherman.
Having said that, I have Had both. I do prefer the powepole. Mainly because I had 2 control boards go out in the talon.

I have 2 12 foot talons on my X-21, never have a problem with them being in the way. I'm glad they are back there, and I didn't have to deal with hydraulics

Wish I would have invented this, every freaking boat in the FLW has two.

Thanks for the responses. I like the idea of not having hydraulics but The Talon is higher when deployed. I'm going to look at both more at the boat show to help decide.

I have 2 twelve ft talons and love them. Put the break away mount on them so they fold down when I need to get in the garage, under a limb, etc

I have two 8ft talons with tilt mounts on a Triton TR21PDC. There are pros and cons with each.

Talons are electric only and you can use a socket to raise if you have issues while deployed. Spikes have lifetime guarantee and are easy to replace. easy to repair yourself. I have disassembled and reassembled with no issues. Deploy strait down. Has lights to tell you deployed depth. No push or pull when deploying unlike PP. Heavier than PP and make more noise. Same height as Merc 225 EFI. Wish I had 12ft as they are same height with 3 deployment sections instead of two.

PP has electric controlled hydraulics. More to fail and not sure you can raise by hand. More quiet but push you forward when deploying and pull backwards when raising. Much lighter.

We are dealers for both. I have replaced at least 10 Talons with Power Poles, never vice versa. Power Pole's customer service is probably the best in the entire industry.

My dad has a power pole and I like it just fine. Only problem for me was they don't tilt down and wouldn't fit in my boat garage. I'm really surprised PP hasn't figured out a accessory part to make this happen like the Talons have.

Power Pole doesn't manufacture any tilt brackets themselves but they recommend the ones from Hydrilla Gear.

The Talon ones will fit. $229 ea. from Minn Kota.

I can't comment on the Talon.

I've been fishing an 8' PowerPole for the last 3 years. I do seem to have a recurring issue. The bolt/nut that the pole pivots on keeps working itself loose. (As I type this, I'm thinking I might try some locktite.)

That said, PowerPole customer service is second to none. They basically supplied me an entire new unit, at no charge.

If I had to purchase another one, I'd get a 10' PowerPole.

Your bushings are most likely worn out as well and will require replacement. The shorter nut they use doesn't have much thread contact area and will loosen over time. Get a rebuild kit from your dealer or Power Pole to replace the bushings and install a slightly longer (1/2" or so) stainless bolt and a taller nut with more threads and use 262 Loctite. A travel cover will help extend the life of the bushings.

Fished out of hackberry rod and gun last year on a windy day.

Our guide had a talon the guide next to us had a power pole. Our boat never did really hold position, the guide with the power pole had no problems.

I do think the way the power poles go out and down makes them hold better than my Talons....jmho

Thanks. I think I did increase the bolt length, but need to add the Loctite. How does the travel cover help? Holds it tighter/more secure?
