I have always wanted a jeep ever since I was a kid. We paid my truck off in July last year and I'm starting to look at jeeps. I think I'd rather find a restored older jeep then the newer wranglers but I'm not sure yet. What could I be looking at as far as negatives from owning a jeep?

There are no negatives to owning a Jeep, especially an older one. There are only opportunities to learn.

No power to haul a trailer. Not very comfy. Bad fuel economy. They can break often. Not the best vehicle to have during the winter. Over priced always. I had a jeep got rid of and got a truck.

Who needs this when most mechanics use rubber gloves?

Got one last fall. I am still 100% obsessed. LOVE it.

Cons - mpg (who buys a jeep for fuel economy?)

Someone said bad for hauling stuff. Very true. Also slow.

Pros? It is everything you'd hoped owning a jeep is like in your head. I also always wanted one. It has in NO way disappointed me. Pop the top off... roll feeling the freedom a bike gives you. You can go offroading anywhere you want. I'm a modest AND married fellow but I get looks in it all the time from the fairer sex and never before when I had my badass 2nd Gen Xterra. Mods galore.. always a fun next project to do.

It is unlike any other vehicle experience. Do it.

You will look like all the other sheep.

You will constantly be reminded that you could have spent less money on something with more performance.

When I'm in the rubicon, I get zero thumbs up from kids. When I was in my old 4x4, every car that passed had kids' faces pressed against the glasses staring at the vehicle.

If given the choice between all of the american 4x4s, I'd go with an international scout.

Performancewise, the jap stuff is hard to beat.

NO way. I've had 2...love them. They don't fit many lifestyles but if you can afford a decent model...then everything else works. Great 2nd vehicle.

Not if you own a CJ. Nothing beats the classic look of the CJ.

Bought mine in June..... Got a 4 1/2" lift on it and I wish I would have got like a 2 1/2. Other than that I love it, the bigger lift affects the ride way to much for me, but I do love my jeep

I was looking at older jeeps and ended up getting a 1995 bronco. Can still take the top off and also has more room and power.

I have owned several jeeps over the years. If you are not mechanically inclined, get a newer one. If you are not afraid to spin a wrench, find a decent CJ. I enjoyed taking my older ones out but they do require a lot of maintenance.

Can't be done once you get the itch. Re-post and change title to "Talk me out of wanting to sell my jeep" after you buy it . I have a 97 wrangler - great for camp and light driving but not recommended for a longer trip. Pay attention to how it was used if getting an older one and have someone you trust check it out. Searchers does a great job at a pre-check - call them and ask for Phillip. Good luck and enjoy the jeep!

Well yeah if your jeep sucks, it will look like every other jeep
