I will be purchasing an AK soon as a fun gun/plinker/SHTF/ and occasional hog rifle. I know y'all won't talk me out of purchasing a firearm, but in this instance, I am asking specifically about the Yugo M70 N-PAP. I already own AR platform rifles and looking to add an AK to the arsenal.

I do not plan on doing many (if any) upgrades and will be shooting irons. I've read plenty of reviews and comparisons between the NPAP and WASR and for my purposes the NPAP seems like a good fit.

Anyone on here personally own one? Should I be looking at anything else in the sub $600 range? Anything else I need to know before buying an AK?

Why do so many here want to be talked out of buying a gun... Go to the money board for that. This is the board to get talked into buying a gun.

DO IT!

I agree.

I feel like I've seen a bunch of these threads recently.

If you can't afford the gun straight up, just trade another one in and buy the one you want. Or if it's an issue with the SO, just buy it and hide it.

Guy sees something he wants' knows he will get discouraged discussing with the S/O, feels like buying it anyway and get in trouble so he seeks to find someone who can tell him why it's not a good purchase. Willpower only goes so far.

The only thing about yugo's is some of their parts are specific to yugo's only.

Then it's a great gun.

Don't do it. It's a POS, and a waste of your money. Spend it on something you will actually use that is priced based upon utility and not emotion.

I don’t. I want to know if the NPAP is the AK I should go for.

I can.

Nope, she’s cool with it.

Now this is what I was looking for. What your issue with the NPAP? What would you recommend as a better alternative?

This should be a recommend me a gun thread. Given the choice to buy a gun or not buy a gun... buy a gun.

Differences between AKs... I have not idea. But definitely buy one.

I see your point but this is specifically about

If the question was should I buy and AK, the answer is yes. If the question is should I buy an N-PAP the answer could be yes or no.

Love my N-PAP. Outside of the Maadi, they have to be the best looking. Mine is a gen 1. Ya the one with the crappy rail on the dust cover. The gen 1 also had ftf/fte issues due to the gun being single stack upon import. Double stacked magazines really made it a pain to shoot. Finally issued the recall and all subsequent rifles were gen 2.
Any steel magazine will work fine. However I have found with polymer magazines you will have to do a bit of sanding to get the mag latch to engage. Gun shoots true out to 100 yards with iron sights. Don't have to clean after a day or even a month of shooting. Why haven't you bought it already?

I really like my N-Pap underfolder. The only downside about the N-Pap is that it is heavier than my other AKs mostly due to the heavy barrel but that also helps better manage recoil.
