who here is done it? Did you switch everything? I've only fished with Mono my whole life. Now that I bought a Yak I'll be Redfishing as well as bass fishing. Will probably carry 3 rod n reels for each and looking for opinions. Also, leader or no leader? BTW, I still use old school Garcia reels.

I use braid for everything. 20-30lb power pro.

If I have the time and urge, I'll tie on a leader, if not I don't.

I use braid for the spinning reels. Mono for the baitcasters.

Yes. I will typically tie a leader for topwater, just to help keep the line out of the hooks.

Braid on frogs, jigs and worms in the jungle.
Flouro on deep crankbaits and braid/flouro leader on jigs and worms in clear water
Mono on topwater plugs and shallow/medium crankbaits.

ETA: Mono for specks and braid if targetting Reds in the grass

with the Uni to Uni can you reel it all the way through the eyes of the rod?

yes if you tie it correctly and trim the ends close to the knot
I go about six wraps on the braid but only three or four on the mono

I tie a fg knot for leaders. Smallest leader connection knot there is and plenty strong.

LINK

I don't think that's a traditional fg knot but it's really slim and I haven't had it come untied yet.

IMO, much better braid is JBraid by Daiwa, it's smooth as it is A 8 weave Braid. Also try the Albright knot when using a leader. I use the leader (20 florocarbon)when the water clears up but straight 40 lb in the spring with jigs and flipping plastic. I use Braid (40 lb ) Buzz baits no leader. Frogs no leader. Yellow magic 20 ld with 20 mono leader on spinning Rod. Shakey head on spinning Rod, 20lb Braid with 8 lb floro leader. Deep crank baits, still old school PLine Floroclear Mono. I like the stretch and then the deflection off of objects
You get with mono.

Bout sums it up. I will also add that I use flouro for spinner baits for bass. Much better felling and gets better hook sets on long casts

I have one rod with a mono leader on braid and the others are braid end to end. I don't like to loose fish or tackle.

I use 30lb PowerPro on everything, use a mono backer to keep line from spinning on spools....use palomar or improved clinch knot. Don't think I've ever lost a fish due to line break or knot pullin out in years (possibly a toothy fish or just plain user error)
