Now I would like some input on boat trailer with a swing back tongue. Does any one have one of these. Do they hold up ok. It will have a 15 to 17 ft. Carolina Skiff on it so it won't be like it will have a heavy boat on it. The idea sounds great to me but I am a little skeptical.

first question.
Why do you want one?

I had one on my 18' Kenner. It worked well

I think they're safe mechanically speaking. Helps a lot of people be able to put it in the garage and get the door down if space is tight.

I wouldn't pass on one because of it, if that's what you're asking.

I've got one and love it for storage in my shop. I keep everything greased so the motion is always easy and it all seems to be holding up just fine.

I've got a garage in my basement that is not very big and it would help insure me being able to park it in there.

I was definitely concerned with it mechanically.

I remember the first time I saw one, which wasn't really that long ago. Once I saw it, I was shocked it took so long for someone to come up with the idea. I mean, people have been pulling trailers a long time.

Have one on a bigger boat, no issues.

I wouldn't think the trailer tounge connection secured by a pin would be any less secure than the trailer hitch pin connection.

ok then, you could use the feature. Mine also had the retractable cables instead of chains which was a nice feature as well.

This was mine when i bought it new. It's a Galvashield trailer

Here you can see the retractable cables.

Thanks. I'm having a hard time deciding between two boats. One has a trailer with a swing back tongue and the other doesn't. I'm not using this as the deciding factor but definitely an added bonus.

It's mechanical, so it will fail eventually.

I sure wish I had one.

I added one to my boat. Just ordered a fulton brand off amazon and installed.

I have one on my 18' aluminum Ranger. I needed it because I wouldn't be able to close my boat shed without folding it. I also had one on my old ski boat. Never had an issue with either one and my ski boat was pretty heavy.

I need to see if I can do that. I'm about as handy as a 6 year old girl with no arms.

I love mine and it didn't take long to install. Have a 16 ft aluminum boat so it's not heavy but I see big aluminum bad arse salmon boats and they have them. Tbh I see swing tongue kits on half the boats around here. Haven't heard of them failing.

How is this done? How do you cut the original?

I paid 65 for the kit on amazon and had free shipping as it was prime eligible. It isn't hard to do if you have the right tools.

They just bolt on. Just cut the tongue where you want the joint and bolt on the hinge. There isn't really a whole lot to the install. Just make sure you make a relatively straight cut. You have a little margin of error on the cut because of the way the joint is designed but but do your level best to keep it straight.
