I'm heading down to Edisto Island and Charleston, SC tomorrow for a few days and was wondering what would be the best way to catch a few fish surf fishing. I already have an idea of how I'm going to fish from the pier in Mount Pleasant, but I have never really surf fished. I'm not fishing for anything in particular but I would like to catch either a couple of Redfish or Sheephead. TIA

I've never fished there but I believe it's a bit different than fishing around these parts.

Maybe they have a SC sportsman board??

No one ever catches anything surf fishing anyways.

Or pier fishing.

I'll be surf fishing on the east coast of FL this weekend...can't wait.

Just find a bait shop and get a pvc rod holder and some ladyfish or mullet and a couple of those spiderweights. Walk out as far as you're comfortable, chunk it, return to seat, consume beer, wait.

But seriously. Some guys here have these elaborate rigs and they never catch a damn thing. I'll be out there four hours and never see a single person reel anything up from the pier or the beach.

Be careful where you do this if you're in N FL though unless you want trouble.

The pier I go to is usually pretty good. Have caught flounder, trout, redfish, sheepshead, along with seeing others catch a variety. Surf fishing is something I haven't done since I was a kid, but even then I was unsuccessful with it, partly from not really knowing what I was doing and being impatient.
