Hunting has changed entirely too much since I have grown up, and I'm still a youngin' at 26! I grew up hunting straight out of the back door of my house, coming home from school and heading to the woods. Got in my first hunting club in the Spillway and it's just a mess.

These days it seems like it is impossible to find a good place to hunt unless you have some magical hookup/connection and deep pockets. I don't mind paying but I got scammed in Tensas a couple years ago and makes me iffy to pull the trigger (pun intended). I see a lot of ads for places in Mississippi but it just seems like a long drive from Baton Rouge to go hunting. Do any of you guys do this often?

And finally the required if you know of a good hunting club that actually manages and is good for bow hunters please let me know!!

There are good places to hunt in MS aren't far from BR at all. Definitely closer than Tensas.

Take the money you'd be spending on a lease and take a couple nice guided hunts each year. Problem solved, plus if you get in with a couple guides now you could build some nice connections. I know a few guys that religiously do this at the same lodges every year.

That's good if you only want to hunt a couple times a year.

Scouting and finding deer, picking stand locations, and managing the deer on a property is much more rewarding IMO than just shooting deer.

I may try public land a couple of times this year, won't have much of a chance with work. It' looking like Mississippi it will be.

I plan on doing a guided trip one day, but I don't want it to be a 3-5 day hunting season and that's it.

I enjoy this more than killing the deer.

All hunting clubs have open places, you just have to put your boots on the ground and find them. A lot of time they will be small out of the way spots that the "regular" members over look. I hear the same thing in our club from new members and I know 4 or 5 spots that are open.
