Thinking about getting my shop insulated and looking to spray foam the roof first. Anyone who's done it did you go with open or closed cell? Any ideas other than spray foam for the sides? stuff is great but adds up quick so was thinking about doing fiberglass on the sides.

Closed foam for sure, open will saturate if you have a leak.

Advanced Foam Insulation

This is the company I used when I had spray foam installed at my house. They will be able to answer your questions.

And if you have a leak with closed cell, the water will run downhill between the roof deck and insulation, until it reaches the wall. Closed cell turns a pin hole leak into a much bigger problem on roof decks. I would go open cell 100% of the time on roof. Walls can be batt if you're trying to save money, most heat/cold is lost through roof/attic so you are not losing a ton by switching to batt.

X 2.

Open on the roof then decide what is in your budget for walls. Let the contractor know you're considering batt and they may give you a break because he already has his equipment there.

I used Cajun Foam LLC on my house. Added 1,000 sf and the electricity bill is about the same.
