Was using Fram for over a decade and about 3-4 years ago switched to Bosch premium.

What do the OB mechanics think of this? What you guys using and why?

Mobil-1 is a pretty good premium filter that I use. Purolator are also highly regarded. I get my info off Bobistheoilguy.com

OEM Motorcraft filters, nothing better for the money and unless you are driving in the desert or farm roads all year you are wasting money buying "premium" filters.

Wix - not overly expensive, widely regarded as premium quality, and American made (at least I think they're still made in NC)

K&N

I am done with these oil filters after the one I put on my girlfriend's little Jeep had a slow leak that almost stranded me. Luckily when the oil pressure got too low with about a half quart left I was still in town and close to an auto store. I didn't double gasket the filter and I couldn't find where the leak was exactly but I replaced it with a Wix filter that has been on there for about 4 months with no problems.

I use Amsoil filters and oil. Don't let my review of K&N filters deter you because I realize it's only one but it still shocked me. I do like that the K&Ns have a 1" nut on the end that allows you to use a socket or wrench.

I always liked Baldwin filters. I'll go with OEM filters on tractors and such if they're easy to get, but I've used Baldwin oil and fuel filters most of the time and never had any problems.

Nope, never again. Filters have a built in relief valve. Installed one of my truck. What happen was that pressure built up in the crank case and blew out oil the engine crank shaft seal. Thank God it didn't do any damage, but made one hell of a mess.

Fram only now. Yesterday I service a bunch of equipment that cost me $400 for oil and filters.

We buy bulk order of Wix filters on the farm and don't have any problem.

I am no mechanic but we have a full time mechanic on staff and he likes 'em. Basically, says that all of the major brands will perform the well if you change your oil on regular intervals and operate in normal operating conditions.

I never use the regular gram filters but their higher end filter are not bad though overpriced. Usually do research on Bob the oil guy forums. Amazing amount of oil knowledge over there.

It all depends on your oil change frequency. If you are running ams oil for 15k miles you need a pretty high quality filter.

Usually Wix or Baldwin are my first choices. OEM Motorcraft or ACDelco is next. For Walmart brands...I like the Bosch, but I'll use a Supertech before I buy a Fram.

I also had a K&N filter leak. Never had a filter leak in my lifetime of changing oil, but a few months ago I tried a K&N filter in my Sierra. Also liked the nut on the end, but I developed a valve tap going down the interstate one day.

Pulled over, checked the oil and I had lost 2.5 qts (out of 6) and it was leaking out of the oil filter gasket. I think the gasket failed all of the sudden while on the highway and leak happened all at once. I was under the truck a few days prior and I think I would have noticed oil in driveway if it was a slow leak.

I've used Mobil 1 10k filters and oil for a while and have great results from my oil analysis samples. GM 5.3L

I dont even know where to start here. Its impossible for an oil filter to be responsible for pressurizing a crankcase (ie vapors). And all filters have a built in anti-drainback valve. Trying to wrap my head around how the possibility that the drainback valve stuck shut and the oil pressure had no where to go, but the relief valve in the oil pump should have prevented seal blow out. Unless it was stuck shut from using crappy oil like pennzoil or quaker state wax-lube

What kind of engine were you working on?
