Spinoff question: Selling a pistol.

I'm thinking about selling my Glock 22 (40 SW) Gen 2. If I post it online and someone wants to buy it, should I insist on going to an FFL and having them pay for a NICS to protect myself?
BTW, how much is this pistol worth?

You definitely won't sell it if you insist on this. Most people like the transaction to be incognito.
I understand the ethics of selling a firearm but I doubt you have anything to worry about. Most people who buy through private sales are good upstanding people.
If you're that nervous about it, I wanna say there's an app you can get that accesses NICS. But I may be wrong.
EDIT: It's probably worth maybe $350-$400. Glocks are the most common handgun out there so they don't bring a lot of exclusivity to the table.

I wouldn't worry about it. You will scare far too many people away with paper work as they would just buy a new one for all of that. If you are really that nervous you could just have them sign a bill of sale. It would not be much for documentation but might give you the warm and fuzzies you are looking for.

I would say you could get $350 for it, depending on condition. Have you put a lot of rounds through it? It's also 2 Gen's behind so take that into consideration.

Hand write a bill of sale and be done.
Even that isn't needed, but you'll get basic information from the purchaser - name, address, etc.

Yeah, I'm just afraid I might sell it to Joe Blow who looks normal, but has domestic violence charges against him and can't buy through an FFL. So he buys bhtigerfan's Glock, then goes and kills his ex wife and 2 kids, and the feds come looking for bhtigerfan to lock up.

And you tell them, I sold it to Joe Blow. A bill of sale is probably a good idea, but as far as the law goes you are not even required to speak to the person you sell it to.
ETA: Gen2 Pricing is about in line with used Gen3 pricing. The Gen2 actually kind of has a cult following. Police trade in G22's go in the upper 3 hunnits. I'd start yours at $425 unless you have a shite pile of extra mags. Any holsters or other junk you acquired for it shouldn't be factored into the price.

You would have to sell it for $200 for it to be viable for someone to waste time doing that.
Personally, even then, someone couldn't give me a 40 caliber glock for free. That is the worst combination in the world. I would rather a hi-point 357 sig.

I like the way you negotiate.

Seriously, if you're that nervous about selling it to Joe Blow, a previously unknown mass murderer, just got to your favorite gun store/pawn shop and trade it in on a gun you want. You'll "lose" about the same amount of money doing that as you will trying to sell it w/ an NCIS.

Unwarranted shot at 357sigs.

Just put it up on Louisiana sportsman and take a few phone calls. Be a decent judge of character and don't just decide who you sell it to based on the highest offer. You should be able to get a decent peace of mind after meeting the guy. Walk away if it's not something you can sleep with.

honestly, if you are that worried about it, just put the word out among people that you know that the gun is for sale...people typically jump on guns pretty quickly when they trust the person who is selling it.

Get a bill of sale and take a photo of the drivers license. Tell the buyer ahead of time that's a provision of any sale and that should weed out those you are most concerned about.
